We were in search of a good EV charging option for a rental property, the SplitVolt unit was interesting b/c we did not need to make electrical changes for the house. This works great, though the setup process had an issue. The SplitVolt unit wants both connections in place before it turns on, *and* the connectors need to fit securely. The dryer connector for the existing dryer would not allow the unit to turn on, but connecting a 15' extension cable that I needed anyways did turn allow the unit to turn on.The operation is silent for this unit, some reviews report a loud click but not this one. After 3 mo. of use I have had the circuit breaker on the unit trip only once, I am not sure why. Flipped this back on and it was back working fine.We have two cars, a 2022 Tesla Model-S and 2021 Nissan Leaf, both work fine with this setup.

Have been using this for 4 years now, plug it into our dryer socket and run the extended 30 ft cord to the electric car. Has worked flawlessly all this time we're now on our 2nd electric car still using this instead of getting a dedicated level 2 charger no worries works well. I reach down and flip the switch if I see it on and we're not using it, just a habit you can leave it on all the time if you want. It preempts and gives preference to the dryer if for some reason we try to use both at the same time but you can plug it in however you want as far as that goes. Everything is still solid the rocker switch still has a good snap and the part that plugs into my car outside looks brand new even though I've had it hanging outside in the weather.

I spent a lot of time researching these products and speaking to customer support. I believe I made the best decision. I've been using this splitter for a few months and it is impressive heavy sturdy and works perfectly. I thought I was going to have to get a permit from the city replace my 20-year-old electrical box and have another 240 KW Outlet installed at a total cost of 4k. This product is awesome works great and I couldn't be happier that I found it. I'm able to charge my Polestar2 at home with level 2 Charging.

Had this charger and it worked great since May '22 - charging our Polestar 2 every day and using the dryer whenever we wanted to. It abruptly stopped working 11/24 - The dryer will run, but it will not switch to charging the car when the dryer is not on. The EV charging red light wont come on under any circumstances. Tried a different charging cable, unplugged everything and replugged, checked and reset all the breakers. We had noticed that in the last few days we could hear and odd sound coming from the room with the Splitvolt (louder than the typical solenoid switch change that happens when going from the dryer to the EV charging). Long out of warranty. Will replace with another brand.

This product is great! The first thing you want to do is turn off the breaker to the dyer in your panel. Slide the dryer out and unplug it. You may have to use a bit of force because they are tight. After you clean out the dust bunnies from back there, use your phone to take a photo of the outlet. You will use this photo to match up the correct unit to order. After you place the order and it arrives, decide on where you want to mount it. Make sure that the cord from the unit is long enough to reach the dryer wall outlet and that the dryer cord is long enough to reach the Splitvolt unit. Once that is figured out, follow directions to mount the unit on the wall. It comes with screws and anchors for dry wall or use a stud finder so you can mount one side to a stud for extra sturdiness. Now, find a place to mount the charging unit holder that came with your car, making sure that the cables are not bent or twisted and that the cable with the wall plug will reach. Mount the holder, preferably on a stud due to the fact that you will be putting tension on it when you use you charger. If you don;t have a holder, you can just let the unit hang. The plug and the outlet are very tight. I got a big hook type thing at the hardware store so I could loop the charging cable out of the way. Once everything is mounted and plugged in (it will be obvious what plug goes where) , and the dryer has been moved back in place, turn on the breaker in you panel. The Splitvolt will light up showing us the KWH and the voltage (should fluctuate around 240 or so. The red EV light will come on meaning you are ready to juice up your car. Plug your car in and it will start charging. Here is the best part, obviously designed by a married man. When your wife decides it's time to dry the clothes, all she does is load up the dryer and turn it on. The Splitvolt clicks and stops charging the car AUTOMATICALLY and sends all the power to the dryer. When the dryer is finished and shuts off, the Splitvolt starts charging your car again. It works the same even if your car is not on the charger. The car charger is always the default. Genius, I tell you! Now, I will tell you that I am fortunate to have a dryer in the garage so my installation was pretty simple, actually far easier that you think, Just takes a lot of words to describe. The outlet on the Splivolt will fit just about any EV. It fit my neighbor's Tesla and my Leaf. If you have a different plug than normal, there are adapters on Amazon. Just pick the correct one.
