Damaged or Malfunctioning
Puddles of oil under the car
Having puddles of oil under your car is one of the first things that you may notice when it is time to replace. Noticing the oil leak and getting it fixed is the best way to avoid serious damage to your car.
Leaks around the oil drain plug
Over time, the oil drain plug will be damaged and may begin to leak. The drain plug also contains an extruded gasket that will fail over time or will fail if it is not replaced.
Visible damage to oil pan
When passing through the lower part of the oil passage, the oil pan may be bumped or sunken. This impact damage can be a fast leak or something that begins as a drip and steadily gets worse.
How to Replace the Oil Pan
- Use jacks and jack stands to lift and support your vehicle
- Ensure that the pan in placed just below the tank from where the oil will flow.
- Remove the mounting bolts and drain the oil.
- Using the socket, and loosen the old pan.
- Remove the existing oil pan. Use a clean rag to remove any metal debris.
- Run a bead of the sealant used to hold the fiber gasket to the new oil pan and install the gasket.
- Make sure the holes for the bolts in the gasket and pan match each other and then install.
- Tighten the screws or bolts until they start to snug.
- Replace the old oil filter and add the proper amount of oil. Make sure to watch for leaks.
