Exactly what you would expect from a product of this type. Paint seems durable enough for decorative applications. Assuming it is as strong as typical low carbon steel, this will perform its purpose.

I prefer a mortise and tenon joint in my timber work but it's not always practical - especially for joints that will be hidden, in which case I use GRK bolts as my go-to, but there are always places where the additional structural rigidity of a mending plate is good to have. These are super-strong, and also well-finished so that they could be used in visible locations as well.

Bolts made powder coating chip. Had to use black paint and touch up.

They make the pergola look great but I do wish they were a little thicker. For large heavy projects, they'd be a cross between functionally sturdy and decorative IMHO.
