What is the difference between an infrared filter and an infrared filter?
Infrared filters, sometimes called IR filters or heat absorbing filters, are designed to allow infrared and mid-IR wavelengths while blocking visible light. They are often used in equipment with bright incandescent bulbs (such as slide projectors and overhead projectors) to prevent unwanted heating. Since many camera sensors are highly sensitive to near-IR light, some filters are also used in solid-state (CCD or CMOS) cameras to allow IR. These filters often have a blue tint because they sometimes also block some light from shorter visible and UV wavelengths.
In what ways will the infrared filter be used?
1. Archeology, military, police, medicine and detective work. Infrared filters make normally invisible stains and modified items visible.
2. Vegetation and landscape photography. When photographed in infrared, it looks completely different.
3. Photographic effects. Infrared filters provide expressive and unusual effects for still and video photographers.
