I really like it but not enough green yarn included! I’m trying to find a similar yarn to finish it 😔

This kit is super cute and fun to make. It’s more for those who have been crocheting for a little bit. Definitely not for beginners. The instruction video makes it hard to find where you need to be and play back if you are confused in a step. There also wasn’t enough yarn to complete my Dino. Luckily I had left yarn from another kit that I could complete it

This adorable Dan the Dino crochet kit is great for people who love crocheting. The kit comes with everything you'll need to complete the project, except printed instructions. You will have to access the online instructions via a QR code. While this is a cute crafting project, please be aware that there are a lot of steps and you won't whip this up in no time. Don't let that deter you, but I want to warn that this probably isn't the best kit for kids (or adults) who are inexperienced. Just follow the directions and have fun!

I love Dan the Dino! This crochet kit was so fun to do with my little one. She really got a kick out of making this come to life. On top of that, she loves the Dino. It's very educational and she was able to develop a skill that I think is a very useful one to have. Highly recommend!

This was the first crochet project I have ever done. So I came into it as a complete newbie with no clue what to do.The kit came with 3 colors of yarn, stuffing, a size 4 crochet hook, a sewing needle, a plastic stitch marker, 2 plastic eyes, and an instruction page. There was also a qr code that led to a video with step by step instructions. The video was pivotal in my starting and understanding this project. I was able to watch the lady, see what she did and hear what she called each stitch to better understand the written directions. She went at a perfect pace, and presented the steps well in my opinion. The kit also uses a t-shirt yarn. This wasn't a thing I knew existed before. It is like a tight weave rolled up shirt. Slightly elastic and durable. Didn't unwind or tear. This type of yarn I believe contributed to helping learn. It held up when I made mistakes so that I could undo and rework that section. The stitch marker was useful to not undo the parts I was happy with.I did have to buy a separate, bigger sized hook - a 5.5. The smaller hook kept slipping on the yarn and I found I was holding everything really tight to prevent that, which was making my arthritis flair. The bigger hook reduced the slipping, which overall was better in my situation. The included yarn was plenty enough that even with this increase, I had some left over. So the yarn given was perfect. The spikes, head, stomach, arms, and legs did need sewn on. I felt my skill there was worse than the actual crocheting, but figured it out enough to have it hold together. At the end, I was happy with what I accomplished trying this kit. It wasn't perfectly done and took some retries on some parts. However the kit had enough to it to explain or give enough to compensate for learning. I am extremely happy with my little Dan The Dino. He is cute and I think I like him better being that I made him.

I took a chance on this kit because I’ve recently gotten into amigurumi kits from another company whose name starts with W. The price discrepancy between this kit and the W kits is quite stark, so I wanted to give Dan the Dino a try. I had previously completed 3 of the W kits that were rated at Beginner +, and an intermediate kit seemed like a nice challenge. Well, I had no idea what I was getting myself into! The stitching required for this kit is not difficult. It’s just single crochet, increase, decrease, and chain stitch, and you will also have to be able to make a magic ring. If you’re not good at doing the magic ring, you’ll be an expert by the time you’re done with Dan the Dino. The supplies included in this kit are very similar to the W kits, although of slightly lesser quality. The hook they give you isn’t an ergonomic hook, the yarn isn’t quite as nice as the W’s easy peasy yarn, but it’s still decent and very usable. I used only the supplies provided with this kit because I wanted to do an honest comparison between this kit and the competitor. There is a tutorial for this kit, but it is just one really long vid of someone making the dino from start to finish. If you’re not at all experienced in amigurumi and you’re relying on the video, you’re going to be pausing every ten seconds or so, and good luck finding anything if you need to go back and rewatch a specific technique. For this reason, I did not use the video and just went by the pattern, which they thoughtfully give you on paper. I do have access to video instructions for three of the W kits, so I used those if I needed to jog my memory with sewing on a flat piece or a 3D piece, or making a magic ring.Everything so far sounds easy enough, right? Well, I have to say, I did not enjoy making Dan the Dino. The techniques needed are pretty basic, but there is just so much to do, and it is tedious. You end up having to make 14 different pieces for this kit, and then you have to sew them all together. I suspect that previous reviewers (all Vine reviews of a free product) probably didn’t actually make the dino before they left a review. If someone’s child is doing this kit and actually completes it, congratulations, you have the most patient and dedicated child in the world.I was feeling pretty good about the project once I got the head done. My stitches were fairly even and I was thinking “This is going to look great!” I got the body done, and the realization of how much further I still had to go gave me a bit of a sinking feeling. I came back to it the next day and started making all of the small pieces. Tail, two arms, two legs, a belly patch, and 6 spikes. The spikes had me hating life, but I stubbornly pushed through and completed them. I sewed the head and body together, sewed the belly patch on, and decided I’d had enough. I didn’t come back to finish the dino for about 3 days.Dan the Dino is finally finished, and I must say I’m very impressed with the the way he looks (he’s not perfect, but not at all bad for a somewhat-newbie). I’m also quite proud of myself for persevering through it and actually completing the project. And make no mistake, it definitely is a project. I’m sure very experienced crocheters can zip through this in an hour, but for someone who is still rather new to the craft, it was a ton of work.In comparison with the W kits, it really depends on what you want to get out of it. The finished product with this kit is a bit larger than a W creation (my dino is about 5 1/2 inches tall), the supplies are comparable, and the price is currently less than a third of the cost of a beginner W kit. If you want something fun that works up quickly, gives you a little challenge but nothing too tedious, and has bite sized tutorial videos to help you every step of the way, this is not the kit for you. If you want to put yourself through a labor of love to make a very nice gift for a cherished child or loved one, Dan the Dino will fit the bill. Speaking for myself, If I’m wanting to crochet for fun and stress relief, I’ll stick with the W kits. After completing this project, I do feel that the much higher price of the W kits is justified due to their fun teaching method and somewhat better supplies. It’s overall a much nicer experience for novices. As for this kit and others in the line, I’m actually surprised by the low cost for what you end up with. The finished product is great and would make a lovely gift for yourself or someone else. I learned a lot by making Dan, and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one of these kits again if I wanted to create something special as a gift. Just know what you’re getting yourself into. This is not a lower cost alternative for a W kit. It’s a serious project, and has its own place in the crafting world.

The yarn is a lovely green, yellow and white with a blissful softness to it. The accessories of a crochet needle and some markers are included. There are no printed instructions you need to use the QR code which links to step by step video instructions. However, if you don't have a smart phone or a way to read the QR code, there are not instructions (I've searched by not found any). Just wanted to add this to my review because while this is a cute kit, it might not be the right kit for everyone.
