Three days after installing, it broke

There was some modifying and monkey business to get it to fit. I think the awning arms and end caps went through revisions over the years. But these are much heavier duty then the old one the way it connected. That's what Broke in the wind. Had this on all summer now. Works great. Saved a lot of money by fixing the mechanism rather than replacing the whole thing.

What a slick system, I made a hook rod and attach to a drill to make (un) winding the awning a breeze.

I just wanted to share that I took a calculated gamble in purchasing this Upgrade End-Cap Kit and it seems to have paid off well. Can also shed some light on possible compatibility clarifications:My Econline RV, Class C, is a 1988 or 86 model I believe. It has a Fiesta awning on it. However, I don't know the year of the awning. I would just assume it was the original one, but could be wrong. That said, these end caps worked on my Fiesta awning, with one small adjustment: the slots line up, which is the most important part. The screw holes don't. However, since they provide you with self-tapping screws, it's a simple process of drilling new holes for the screws and then just popping them in. The back end end cap fit just fine. The front side end cap also seemed to fit a bit loose at first, but compared to the original caps, seems only nominally different. The bolt holes to bolt the caps to the arms still line up perfectly, as do the locking tabs at the top.So, since my springs were busted, replacing them would have cost about $450 plus tax. At $165 plus tax, this was a much, much better option and works great! Would highly recommend.

These awning tube end caps were extremely easy to install and work flawlessly. My wife can barely open a camper door much less lower/raise a spring type awning. These crank down/up end caps are perfect. She can do it with ease and if she can anyone can. Anyone will love them!

Carefree isnt making the quality it used to be the metal is not thick enough to stand up to the weather like their products in the past like all rv products the quality and workmanship has gone down hill in the last 20 years using more and more inferior materials and less quality production

The product arrived with scratches on 1 end cap (damage was expected as this was from the returns warehouse) which were not very noticeable at all.The existing awning was a 16' 1996 Carefree by Colorado. The fit was perfect.I was also replacing the existing awning so I used a different method to unload the existing spring tension. I extended the awning all the way out and cut the awning off at the roller tube. Then with my son and I holding the tube I released the catch and we let the tube rotate to unwind the springs. We easily removed the screws and pulled out the springs. The idler endcap had 2 screw holes at the right placement. The gear endcap had 3 screw holes instead of 2. I had to drill 3 new holes for the self-tapping screws. The gear is quite stiff to crank at first but cranks easily once on the go. I fabricated my own hand crank from a 1/4" x 4' round aluminum rod from Home Depot. 4 bucks.Very happy with how it rolls the awning in and out without any creases. Some reviews suggest to leave in the LH spring and only put in the gear endcap. This, to me, would add a lot of tension and effort to unroll the awning for the minimal assist in winding in the awning. I would not do that.

DON'T NEED TO BUY NEW SPRINGS Replaced broken springs with these end caps they work great without the springs cheaper and better than springs awning stays up tighter the crank end cap keeps the awning locked wherever you put it even partially open. I put my old awning pull rod in a cordless drill after I bent it with pliers and hammered a flat spot on other end to hold tight in drill. The awning goes up and down with no effort at all this is how they should have made it in the first place.

I loved how easily this replaced the existing broken springs on my awning. It took only 20 minutes to replace both sides with a second set of hands. The awning locks in position much better than the spring system ever had before.

The springs broke in my Carefree awning, making it extremely difficult to put it in and out. Saw this online and figured it would be easier than replacing the springs. This item works well. It was fairly easy to install. Now I can just manually crank out the awning with the telescoping handle. Be aware that you must purchase the handle separately. The crank handle does require a bit of force to keep turning it until the awning is out, but I (a 60+ year old woman) was able to do it. A nice feature is that you can also just roll it out part way if you desire.I have not had this long enough to assess how long it will continue to work well. But so far, so good.

So far it seems like good quality but time will tell. Easy to install and it works very well.

7/28/14 Update: I've lowered my 5-star to 4-star after using this a couple of times. I've found it very difficult to get my arms to align when closing the awning. I'm thinking that the forward end-cap maybe wider than the original, causing the misalignment. Looks like I need to go on the roof and see if I can widen the distance between the two awning mounting brackets.------------------------------------------------------------------------------Like others reported, one of my awning springs had broken. Of course, I found this out after unrolling the awning when camping and then needing to climb onto the roof to manually roll it back. I'm glad I no longer need to deal with the spring issue. This kit took about 30 minutes for the actual install and was really straightforward. Plan for an hour (watch videos, think it through, verify your steps, cleanup). As others mentioned, one end cap has 3 screws instead of the original 2. But that was no problem as the kit included self-tapping screws that easily bit into the aluminum roller tube.Tools needed: Small allen wrench to act as a cotter pin, power drill with Philips and square drivers.

What a great find and purchase. Simple installation, works great and is a major improvement over the breaking springs and tons less expensive to buy. These should be on all patio awnings, forget the springs. Easy extend, easy retract, very quick. If you leave the spring installed in the left side, retract is even faster. Highly recommended. As mentioned in other reviews, additional holes are required on the drive end of the kit, however, the screws provided are self tapping, therefore you can just drill them in with an electric drill, piece of cake.
