I am a beginner and tried various combination of lenses with/without Barlow 2x. This one (without Barlow) does provide spectacular viewing of Moon. Magnification for Saturn & Jupiter also provide great views but there is a significant loss of sharpness in picture quality.

This is the most powerful eyepiece that you can get for my telescope, the Celestron 6SE. The standard eyepiece is 25mm, this is 2.3mm, so it's a little over 10x the magnification. I did a little test to make sure that alignment was correct and attached an image for reference. The image on the left shows the telephone pole I was focused on, the image on the right is a phone cable attached to the telephone pole mount. This is a VERY well constructed eyepiece. I'm planning on testing it with a planet tonight and will update this post accordingly.

I love this lens. I will say, it is very difficult to use unless your telescope is spot on calibrated, so make sure you keep a small lens close to center your object with before putting this one in. But man, does it get our way out there. I can see the colors of Jupiter now with my setup.

The first thing noted with this eyepiece was the hard it took to put inside the drawtube. After and finally in place ...voilá...DUST in the optics, and I mean inside the eyepiece of course. Took it apart and the narrow down tube that gets inside the focuser was a bit loose.Dust with this power is a waste of time and money and VERY annoying to the view!!!! Nice look to a "DUSTY" moon. For those with similar problem, found some in forums, and difficult to send it back for a return I want to say that I opened the eyepiece for cleaning. Hard to achieve without leaving any stroke of soft cloths or brush on the little lens deep inside the eyepiece but I did it, so anyone can do it too.Concerned about lens coating, I followed Celestron recommendation with 50% alcohol; 50% distilled water; 1000% of patience and a very high quality lens cloths around a cotton swab to help reach that deep lens and its edge close to the supporting ring. Use a new cloth each time you need it. With this powerful eyepiece you will notice any but anything inside it. One thing I did was to left aside the eyepiece's draw tube lens, the last one, and with the eyepiece "opened" this way I place it on the telescope's focuser. This way you will notice any little particle on the lens so you can go back and clean it further, very gently on the lens without pressure, just as caressing it. A good quality lens cloth is needed to avoid lint easily trapped on lens by static; moisture, whatever. Do not mouth blow,,, never! Now the dusty moon is "clear"!!!

This eyepiece has all the features and performance of many higher priced eyepieces. The 2.3 mm model provides high power views of the moon and planets with wide field and good clarity. I use mine with my small 60mm refractor up to my 8 inch SCT and all my scopes in between and the results are always excellent. Recommend buying these over many higher priced eyepieces.

I guess you would consider the X-cel eye piece the 3rd tier offering from Celestron (2 up from the eye piece that comes with scope) and let me tell you what a diiference!!To start off with the build quality is vastly superior than that of the standard eye piece and there is a significant weight difference (X-cel the heavier). There is also a noticable size difference that Im sure has to do with whats held inside. The adjustablity is also a huge plus and it comes in its own sturdy container for storage. But what really matters is the perfromance and all I can say here is Wow! The field of view is significantly better. The images are crisper any clearer. Color seems more vibrant and light artifact at the edges of the eye piece seemed markedly reduced. All this for what I feel is a fairly reasonable price ($59.95 sale-%79.95 normal); especially when compairing them to Televue ($200+).Give this brand a shot you wont be disappointed.PS: This eyepieces magnification is significant any movement directly transfers to a shaky picture.

Used this on my Celestron 130 SLT and it gave me the most amazing views of Venus and Jupiter. At the magnification levels produced you need an EXTREMELY steady surface as even the slightest movement will make for a very unsteady image, so be careful there. Was very impressed by the brightness of the images at this power, I believe I could conceivably use this with a barlow lens for further magnification.
