i have only tested these inserts on 6061 t6 aluminum. the part in the pictures is only being held by the pressure plate until we have the 15.375" round disc. that being the case we can't take very deep depth of cut. I'm taking a d.o.c. of .040 at a feed rate of .012. at those rates i was able to get the chip break to work well. the interrupted cut impact did not seem to have any effect on the insert, but again we are talking aluminum. i ran about 5 of these and the insert nose appears to be as new. no abrasion, chipping or loss of coating. these inserts are pretty heavy, so my guess is the carbide substrate is quite good. over the next few weeks i will get to test these inserts on plastics (uhmw and hdpe) and stainless steel large diameter 316 grade. my guess is that these inserts will work fine on the plastics but may be tested on the stainless steel. for now, if you machine a lot of plastics, and soft steels (aluminum, brass, etc) these are great inserts at a great price. if they exceed my expectations in the stainless steel i will update this review and give them 5 stars.
