The cable cuts mapple hardwood no problem. It is light and packs small. Just make sure you do not cut at a too closed angle since the cable will catch. This is the case for all cable saws. Using a bendable stick to create a bowsaw is the best mode. Using hand sonly takes practice.

Broke the first time I tried to use it.

I tied a rope to each ring. Threw one rope over a dead 3 inch diameter branch. Set the wire saw on top of the branch in the middle of the saw.Began to pull one side to slide the saw over the branch. On the first pull the saw wire broke, not at the connection but in the wire.

This was a really handy wire saw, but it broke because the fishing tackle swivel ends needed to be beefier. The price point is superb, but I would have paid 50 cents more for an increase in line test performance. on the swivels. Even so, I still might reorder and correct this myself.

Much heavier grade saw, flexibility is great as well. No problem form fitting it into a survival tin, replacing the cheap stock wire saw. In a true survival situation this saw will more than perform. Just good quality all the way around and fast shipping to boot.

The BCB Commando & Survival Wire Saw Seems to have better and stronger construction (better for making an impromptu bow saw) and appears to have a more effective cutting blade than other wire saws I've had over the last fifty or so years.

I purchased this saw to cut a tree trunk (approx. 3 inches in diameter) that had grown up into a chainlink fence. Since there was no way to get at it from the other side, so I thought this would be the perfect solution. Unfortunately all it did was bind up. Might be due to the fact that the tree is green? Maybe it would work on dry, dead wood, but it certainly doesn't work on anything alive.

I use these either one or link two together to trim tree limbs - some 30 feet above the ground - throw rope over limbs and drag the wire saws up and over the limbs. Sure beats playing 'Jungle Jim' trying to harness-up and then, after climbing several stories up the trunk of an 80' oak, trimming back limbs that are too long throwing the trees out of balance or overhanging where they shouldn't. Super little saws and tough - I have even linked two together to cut larger diameter wood. Very nice swivel system on each end of the saw and very compact. Great price and great delivery service!
