- When playing the dhol, the beater in the dominant hand is called the "dagga" or "thilli," and it is used to play the bass sound on the larger side of the drum. The beater in the non-dominant hand is called the "baan," and it is used to play the higher pitched sound on the smaller side of the drum
- To use the dhol beater sticks, hold the dagga stick with a firm grip and strike the larger side of the dhol with the round end of the stick, just off-center from the middle.
