It can be used both in the laboratory, quality lab and on the road. The large temperature range up to 1292 degree F will allow the testing of very hot materials. The sturdy stainless steel probe with a 4 mm diameter (about 3/16 inch, 0.156 inch) can easily be inserted into asphalt and bitumen. It frequently is used as a truck temperature kit since it is so easy to carry on the road.

The cord for the probe doesn't lock into the gage. This will work for a lab but not in the field.
