It's inexpensive, the impeller is not balanced properly, and I don't think it has auto off.Measured against a Kestrel, it was off (eso wind speed ... see above), Rh was similar but only provides while numbers, not decimals. It would be good for trend measurement, but i wouldn't use it for absolute measurements.

Bought this for the WBGT. It’s extremely slow in getting to the actual ambient temp. Not sure it ever gets to WGBT.When I compared the device to Perry Weather station, Zelus, Heatstroke and weather apps the WGBT appears to be closer to simple wet bulb. And that was after 30 mins. of being outside.

I've been a sailor for over fifty years and can tell you that folks like me soon develop a sense of wind conditions most lubbers wouldn't even understand. Similar devices have been available for quite sometime and the best have always been quite expensive. Not necessarily beyond my reach expensive, but beyond my needs or expectations. Wind is a fickle thing and one that really can't be accurately quantified. On a sailboat wind is everything and how you use it is more challenging than than driving a car. It shifts and changes in velocity and is rarely constant. Sailors can see wind like others see colors and often need to react much faster than having to reach for a gadget like this. I'm not suggesting it and other of its ilk have no purpose because clearly they do, as seen in the variety of choices alone. I just don't know what the purpose is especially when it comes to the heat stress indicator, if you need a meter to tell you it's hot, you've got bigger issues. I'm probably too old fashioned and too critical to be expected to provide a fair and unbiased review of this handheld anemometer so take it with a grain of salt. As is I see this as more of a curiosity than an instrument and for that it's probably worth checking out. I'm not saying it's a toy by any means, I just can't see its value. One final note: it is rather odd looking and perhaps larger than it appears - it's not a compact device.

I really like this unit. Comes nicely packaged in its own case. Also includes a small screw driver and 2 AAA batteries. The screw driver removes the battery cover. It's a nice compact size. I'd not call this ruggedized and would not want to drop it but it will do just fine for gauging wind speed. The buttons on the front are fairly self-explanatory and work as expected and the one-sheet user guide can fill in any blanks. While I don't see the value in the heat-related aspect of this unit, as I'm familiar with heat precautions as is, it's nice to have. Otherwise I consider this a good value and will enjoy using this in my outdoor activities.Simply turn the unit on, allow it to catch the breeze and read the wind speed. I use the Max value but that is just one of many modes and options. However that is the primary use for me for this unit and I'm pleased with it.

I'll admit, for my purposes this was more of a curiosity/novelty item I acquired as a Vine Voice reviewer - as opposed to any real need.My curiosity was probably piqued a few years ago when my HVAC system was in the beginning stages of failure, and a less than reputable repairman used a similar device to try and convince me that not enough air was flowing from the vents and I should upgrade to a newer, bigger system. I had no idea what the numbers he was showing on the gauge meant, but it sounded ominous.I eventually did upgrade my HVAC, but not through him...and now I know what the actual CFM airflow is from a fully functional and working system.I believe these devices do have real world value for weather professionals, and as one reviewer already mentioned here -- monitoring of heat index by school and camp professionals. I have a daughter in marching band who frequently is required to practice outdoors with her class in the blistering summer heat. This would be a great device for the instructor to use and I will be recommending it to him.My only warning to would be buyers, the instructions are not very clear and the buttons on this device feel very iffy and like they may not last a long time. For me, it's really a novelty gadget that is fun to use while camping off grid when away from online weather reports and warnings. Not a necessary item for me personally, but fun and educational none the less. I enjoy having it.

I got this item because I needed an anenometer for flying. This does more than just provide wind speed. It provides information on humidity, wind speed and temperature. All important things needed for flying. Now this is not designed to be used for flying, but it is used as a way to read the local climate to avoid things like heat exhaustion. Something that is very common in the southern part of the U.S. especially during the summer. As for the flying portion we like to "Hike and fly" which is very strenuous physically and this device gives us a better of idea of if we should hike and fly or just fly.One other note I would like to add is that it is easy to operate and it provides information in different types of measurements with the press of a single button. It also has a button for max and min wind levels it detects. It reads the climate information and lights up in colors if the conditions are relatively safe, if we should be cautious or if a hike would be dangerous by showing colors associated with each level. I am not sure how accurate the devices is, but the fact there is a device that can be used is comforting to know. Especially if your kid is going to be outside participating in activities. This device would be a good idea for any counselor that is supervising kids outdoors to use. Too many stories in the news about kids collapsing or dying outside because they or the person in charge didn't take the proper precautions.I will continue to use this when getting ready to hike to avoid heat exhaustion or other heat related health issues, and it is handy for wind speed.
