The General Motors style HEI large distributor cap distributor performance modification will not fit without this thermostat housing. You will also have to lightly grind the housing (it's not real thick you're basically just smoothing it off, I used a 4.5" grinder and a sanding flap wheel) you will have to also "relieve" the distributor at this water neck in order for it to clear, it is a super tight fit but if installed correctly it will give you the room you need to make timing adjustments on the distributor.Again this is a must if you have a GM style HEI distributor and you are installing it on a 429 or 460 big block Ford, it is so badly needed it should have came with the distributor. In my particular case this was installed on a 1970 460 Lincoln Continental engine running the stock intake. In my personal opinion I don't think I would run a GM HEI again but it does run good and it is relatively easy to install it's just way too big for a big block Ford because of where tis water neck/thermostat housing is but if you are stupid like I am/was you will need this water neck to clear that distributor. It is definitely a recommended buy if you do the distributor modification.Hopefully I made this clear enough that other people will see this and buy this and not have to guess on what to purchase.

Your old temp sending unit might not fit the smaller I.D. to accept the 5/8" Npt (pipe threads) that came out of the stock thermostat housing. My sensor would only thread into I.D. about 3 threads worth. Get a new sensor that will fit the dorman. I do not know what size as it is not provided my Dorman. Thanks

It’s “ok” but the supplied bolts were smaller than my OEM bolts so they didn’t work, but more importantly the bolt holes were too small for the original bolts so l had to drill them larger. And no, my bolts were never replaced with larger size. Just an FYI as you may run across the same situation.
