Dormant hood latch cable used as a replacement on my 2003 Toyota Highlander along with a release hood latch. Worked great and was a bit challenging due to the way Toyota ran it under the inner fender plastics. However was successful 😃

The Dorman replacement cable fits just right. It's likely that if you would attempt this job, then you're already comfortable tearing your Highlander apart. It was a learning experience for me.I took the grill off, thinking that I needed a new hood latch too (I didn't) but this made it easier to fiddle with the old and new cable. As another reviewer said, you have to drop down (but not remove) the fender liner. You don't have to remove the wheel either, but that would make dropping the liner easier. I bought some extra plastic clips to make this easier, rather than trying to re-use the original clips. https://www.amazon.com/GOOACC-Compatible-90467-10183-90467-07201-52161-02020/dp/B07VY99191. I only needed three, now I have lifetime supply.I tied and taped the new cable to the old one at the hood latch and pulled the old and new cable into the wheel well behind the fender liner. It took a lot of finagling. My old cable hadn't broken but the housing had split open where it hides near the headlight, and that was why my hood wouldn't open. I cut the damaged part off the old housing and cable, and I removed the little top-hat cover on the old housing that is supposed to block water from entering the passenger compartment. The old housing was hard to move inside the rubber tube that carries the cable into the passenger compartment, so I sprayed everything I could with 3M dry silicone spray and used the old housing to pull the new housing and cable through the tube and into the interior. Then it took me a half-hour to clip the new cable head into the latch pull, but I got it on only the 300th try. Now the hood release works like brand-new!

Great fit for my Highlander. Yes you have to drop the LF fender liner to access the retaining clips.
