A neat package that suffers from diminutive size. This dictionary is small. Buttons are too small; screen font is too small, even with adjustable font some on screen displays are unaffected. Navigation arrows are not intuitively placed, and a nuisance to use. Older machine that this replaced was far better; had a nice big screen font, easy to read; nice big buttons, intuitively placed navigation arrows. Device now sits in a drawer; got a nice Spanish-English dictionary from the dollar store!

Screen was very hard to read. I returned this item. Be careful when ordering it. Returns to this company, which isn't Amazon, are only allowed on defective items. I returned the item a month ago and still haven't received a refund.

I really like the content of this thing so far, but the problem is that I usually use it outdoors, and you can barely read it there, for some reason. I thought the battery was low after I tried to use it in my car, which is where I listen to my Spanish lessons. However, when I took it indoors and turned it on before replacing the battery, it was nice and bright there and easy to read again. Then back out in the car, later that day, I can't read the screen AT ALL. Not sure what the problem is, but so far I don't see a button or option to alter the screen to make it more visible.

I purchased 4 of these for everyone's Xmas gift. They were very well received. One of them was for me. I love having this little guy close by when I am reading. Also, in my purse when I am out and want to look up something fast. It's great for those vocabulary debates you have concerning definitions. It works well and considering how portable it is the set up is nice. Lots of info at my fingertips. It comes with much more stuff than the item description. It has info on grammer, punctuation, spelling possibilities, games, SAT lessons, Thes and Dictionary, Bible info, and more. The fact that I can pop in a second cartridge for languages and other educational info makes it a real dynamo. I recommend this as a great means for keeping your brain quick and learning. My only complaint is the screen doesn't light up, but the screen is easy to read without if you have lighting available. I really recommend this as a educational tool.

This is one of the few electronic dictionaries that actually contains a true dictionary in electronic form. The entries are just like you'd see if you opened a normal spanish-english or english-spanish dictionary, with multiple meanings for the words and phrases, not like a pocket dictionary. And yet, it fits in your pocket!Unlike the previous reviewer said, there is no flip top cover, and the battery compartment is very secure. Franklin must have revised its product. The conjugations are the only weak part- while being functional, to be honest, Barron's 501 Spanish Verbs, a normal paper book, is a bit faster than this and gives you every conjugation at a glance. The dictionary will display a general conjugation, called an "overview" of the verb in each tense with an english translation (ie: Yo Soy - I am). Which, while useful for a traveler, is highly disfunctional for a student who knows what exact tense and subject he wants to conjugate the verb in. Accessing the full conjugations is easy, but slow. You must press a key to cycle through the tenses, but there is about a 1 second lag time between each tense, making getting to the pluperfect tense for example, very time-consuming. However, usually in the "overview" of the verb, you can figure out what the stem of the verb is for that tense, but you run into problems with stem-changing verbs, because all the different stems for one tense will not be displayed in the "overview" and you'll have to cycle through.Typing is very easy though with your thumbs, or fingers (although thumbs i feel are easier and more natural)Overall though, and especially given the fact that the main feature is the dictionary, it's a great product, certainly the best dictionary out there in this price range.
