We had to install new insulation in our basement and I wanted something waterproof and fire resistant as well as thin because we don't have a lot of overhead space in that area. These tiles would work very well in a drop down ceiling because they are very light yet rigid. To install these ceiling tiles, we used 3/4" narrow crown molding staples and nailed the panels directly to the floor joists. We found we had to set the staple gun at the lowest possible drive depth because otherwise the staples punched through. We had a very hard time getting the 4' by 2' panels to lie flat along the length so they ended up being a little wavy (as shown in the photo). As this is a nonstandard installation method, this is not a design or manufacturing problem.

These are decent PVC backed foam ceiling tiles. The PVC outer coating is not very thick, but it holds up fine to water on the surface. The foam is sufficiently thick to add structure to the tiles but you do have to be careful like with any ceiling tile when handling. Once you get them into the ceiling grid they look great, although they do look pretty plain if you are used to the textured ones. One of the tiles arrived with a crack at the edge on one side, but it was hidden by the ceiling grid. Not sure about fire proofness, they do not have anything on them saying fire rated or anything. Cutting these tiles is a bit challenging but I recommend to treat it like drywall and score/cut on both sides. The PVC coating (basically plastic) on each side may crack if not properly scored.
