Best sounding HE switches I’ve found so far.

I bought these, not as keyboard keys but to use in electronics projects as a bounceless pushbutton, in conjunction with A3144 Hall Effect switches. I've made a test setup and am happy with the results. The keys/buttons operate smoothly. The magnet will operate the A3144 chip very nicely with the thickness of a PCB between the magnet and the H-E sensor. Any closer and the sensor won't "release". That distance is necessary for the dead band to work properly. An oscilloscope confirms that this configuration results in a very clean switch, both closing and opening.I found it easy to mount the key on one side of the circuit board and the H-E sensor beneath it, on the opposite side of the board. The spacing of the key pins is consistent with the standard 0.1"/2.54 mm hole spacing of common project boards. It is necessary to drill out the holes for the key pins slightly but once that's done they fit perfectly, held in place with a little CA gel on the pins. The A3144 output goes LOW when sensing a magnet, the opposite of a physical pushbutton, but an inverter (one transistor, one resistor) fixes that if necessary. If there's any downside to using these as I've described, it's that there's no tactile feedback. That's fly manure in the pepper.

It seems like a few other reviewers didn't understand what was meant by "magnetic" switches. These require a keyboard PCB that uses Hall-effect sensors rather than traditional conductive switches. A quick glance at the product photos will show there are electrical pins on the bottom, but rather two alignment posts and the center region where the magnet will act on the sensor below. The quality of these switches is great- the hold the keycaps firmly without being impossible to remove, there is very little stem wobble, and are sufficiently lubricated as-is. My only issue is a personal one: no matter how much I try, I just can't "do" linear switches. I only recently retired my Model M which has dutily served since 1991 (and which has never been opened or needed repair!) and I just equate all linear switches with low-quality membrane switches that have plagued the majority of keyboards for decades. Still, I know there are people that swear by linears and these would be perfect for anyone looking for high-quality magnetic switches.

In addition to having a Hall effect keyboard you'll want to make sure it is 5 pin compatible. These switches do not have the center post but do have the two outside edge posts.I'm by no means a switch connoisseur but here are some thoughts. These switches are super smooth. I really like them. I usually have to deduct a star because when they say pre-lubed I often find that only one rail was lubed and the other may have no lube or a small speck during the factory lubing process. Pretty disappointing. NOT THESE. I took apart 3 switches and for all the stem rails were properly lubed. A very light coating which is what you want. If 3 were done properly I have confidence that all were done well.Good job!

I'm new to the whole magnetic switch scene and I'm not sure I like them more than traditional switches...Regardless, these are some very nice switches as is to be expected with Gateron! There's no wobble and you get a nice smooth linear feel with these.Keep in mind, they do have the two little legs on them so if you have a hall effect keyboard that doesn't have two holes for the legs, you'll have to snip them off. Also, these are for hall magnetic keyboards ONLY. You will not be able to use these with any standard mechanical keyboard because they don't have contact points. You can see that on the very first product picture.

it's exactly as advertised and good, but I noticed some inconsistencies with how each switch feels so will have to relube most of these switches.

What I expected: a magnetic induction switch that is compatible with mechanical keyboards. What I received: a magnet on a spring for Hall effect keyboards. If you have a Hall effect (electromagnetic, non-mechanical) keyboard, you may be in the right place.I expected this to have an integrated pick up coil for powering (e.g.) a Hall effect sensor that would trigger conduction on a downstroke and register on a mechanical keyboard. I am aware of the challenges this presents, as I live the electromagnetic life. The potential reliability of the actuator could be an order of magnitude or more than mechanical switches. Consistent registration of a stroke given variable speed of the mechanism would be an amazing engineering challenge to overcome. Maybe unrealistic to expect that at this price (~$1 ea at time of review), but the description led me down that path. If you use a mechanical keyboard with switches, this isn't compatible. While the description is inaccurate IMO, the action on these is smooth and linear. Very little wobble, and they are well constructed. This initial testing is promising in that they may be as consistent as the mechanical Gateron switches I have experience with. I did not put them through rigorous testing to determine wear and scratchy-ness because these are not mechanical switches.

This is probably one of the best HE switches available. There aren't many options out there, but this one's very smooth and has no stem wobble while typing. The sound is deeper than a my Gateron pro yellow mechanical switch.. but only slightly - not thocky if that's what you're going for.Stem wobble: These are tight - almost no horizontal wobble with little vertical wobble. They basically don't wobble while typing.Overall one of the best. Granted that we don't have a lot of choices yet...
