I knew what I was getting when I placed the order, knowing some assembly would be required and just ABS plastic all around. It fit our Google home mini like a glove. The top handle pieces separated on one before the screw was even flush, but a minor thing. For $10 it was a decent value and functional, taking a smaller footprint for the mini than before. The only real issue keeping that 5th star was the provided screwdriver, very tiny, the handle specifically. Arthritic hands be warned! Fortunately, I have my own precision driver set so I avoided any sores or cramps.

I got two of these for Goog Home Mini's.Both went together quickly and (warning) on both, the Clock Handle fasteners can easily destroy the clock handle if you go there. On both the sound quality went directly into the toilet.. and reasonably so! Anyone that knows Goog Home Mini knows the entire front is NOT a speaker, the whole front is circuit board, touch panel, and LEDS. C'mon engineers, didn't you even look at where GM's sound comes out? Wander over to utube and have a look at some disassembly videos folks. The sound fires off an Static Inverted Cone Radiator.. out the SIDES of the GM's face. This Clock body almost completely covers all the GM's sound circumferential port, and as many reviewers before me state.. muffles the sound beyond acceptability, and I completely agree. My daughter on the other hand doesn't mind the muffled sound, she says in fact she finds it more enjoyable, but admittedly doesn't use it for anything but lights on and homework questions.So.. mine had to be modified quite a bit.. I had to drill about twenty holes in the cover to allow the sound to come out, and with that introduced a small echo as well, which was solved with some cotton pad insulation the ladies use for skin care.I didn't want the drilled holes to show on the front side, so I drilled only the rear cover toward it's outer edge.. which is directly in the path of the Inverted Cone radiator. All this must be done slowly and carefully as the screws are tiny, the threads they make in the bosses are tiny threads and can strip out easily if you go hog wild on it.. all sorts of do's and don'ts for working with tiny stuff. Like firmly squeeze the parts together while gently tightening the screw, don't make the weak threads 'pull' the parts together.. etc.The final result is mixed.. yes I got my volume back, and it's crisp and clear like without the Clock Assembly.. but it seems to be firing backward just a bit.. I might make my holes (ports) a bit larger which should correct problem some.Overall.. as an audiophile I can't understand all these positive reviews, the product has a severe design flaw that blocks nearly all the GM's sound from ever getting out.I'm giving it 3 stars only because I like the look.. else it's a fail.

It simply makes the google home mini look more decorative. I replaced my alarm clock with a google home mini and my phone for some time now. Its nice being able to easily request an alarm for a specific time so i love it. And having a shell to basically make it look like an alarm clock is incredibly amusing to me.And i do like how it makes the speaker more directional, i really dont think it improves the sound all that much. But overall the speakers on these guys were pretty bad to begin with. So, yeah i guess it does improve it a bit but not by much.As for assembly, it was a bit annoying to put together. A tiny screw driver with tiny screws. And at some points you have to provide a good amount of force. I could see people who struggle gripping things or working with their hands just giving up on this. And the little handle along the top was one of the worst offenders and trying to screw it in place when its actually 2 pieces screwed together is kind of hard. But if your up for the effort, or if you have a better screw set, then you will likely have no issues with putting this product together.Beyond that, the build is nice, the colors are nice, and it has a pretty premium feel for what it is. It is rather nicely made.

I just got mine today for the MIni in the Kitchen. I wanted it off the counter. This is super cute. I got white to go with my chalk mini. THe plastic pieces lined up perfectly. There was an extra screw of each type. The handle across the top is 2 pieces...not sure why that is needed. That final screw would not catch so I took a pin to the hole--maybe there was a piece of plastic keeping it from threading. The screwdiver included was fine for the M2 screws--the magnetic element was helpful. However, it was too small and would NOT catch the 2 screws needed to secure the bells and the handle so I used one of my small flatheads and they went right in. IF this were not on the kitchen counter, I would leave the handle off altogether and just screw down the bells. This way I can quickly move it if needed. Usually these kind of devices have cord management as a priority. This has a track for the cord, but the rest of the cord has no place to go. I looped it, used a tie and then used the USB as sort of a hanger for the loop I made. This way the kitchen counter is not covered with cord. Sound I think is better upright vs flat. A key reason for having it is that it announces my Nest doorbell ring, which given the layout of the house can be hard to hear in the kitchen with the fan on, the dishwasher going, etc. The cutest mini holder I have seen so far. Sometimes pure practical is what you want, like my downstairs hallway mini in a holder that hides the cord, sits in the wall plug and tells me someone rang the doorbell. This clock would not work there, but this is a great addition to possibilities.
