  • EXTEND STRING LIFE AND MAINTAIN A CLEAR TONE FOR LONGER. Cleaning your strings with Careful With That Axe String Cleaner, prevents corrosion and preserves tone for a clear focused sound.
  • PREVENT CORROSION AND THE BUILD-UP OF GRIME. Naturally occurring oils and dirt lodges in the crevasses of round wound strings, dampening resonance and resulting in a dull sound. Our penetrating formula pulls grime to the surface where it is easily wiped away.
  • REDUCES FINGER NOISE. Whether on stage in the studio, finger noise on stringed instruments can distract from a great performance. Keeping your strings clean and lubricated reduces unwanted string noise and contributes to a professional sound.
  • SAFE FOR ANY FRETBOARD FINISH. Our String Cleaner is as safe as it is effective. We have rigorously tested our formula to ensure that it is safe for use on all types of wood and finishes.
  • GREAT FOR GUITARS, BASSES, ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTS, AND MORE. Careful With That Axe String Cleaner is highly acclaimed by session and live guitarists, bassists, and orchestral musicians alike.

I am very pleased with the product, it has been great at getting the gunk off. Very easy to apply. I will admit I did not expect the squeak when applying to the strings! It made me jump the first time :-D

I've tried a number of products that are said to keep guitar strings clean of grease and grime. These have included liquids and even a stick that one rubs up and down the fretboard. Because I hate to change strings, I have also used coated strings that slow down, if not prevent, the build up of grime. But lately I am reverting to uncoated phosphor bronze strings. I think they sound brighter and ring clearer. The downside is having to replace the strings more often. This Careful With That Axe string cleaning liquid may allow me to keep strings on my guitar longer without changing them. The liquid itself is a bit oily and only a small drop is needed. The 2 oz bottle should last through a couple of cleanings at least. The directions on the bottle were covered by a stocking label from Amazon, but I was able to remove it carefully in order to read the instructions. Using the product is easy: slowly place a drop of the liquid on a clean cloth (I use microfiber cloths) and rub it along each string individually starting with the lowest string; I took that to mean the low E or sixth string. I don't think it matters much where you start. I was able to clean all six strings with only three drops of cleaner, with each drop on a different part of the cloth. The cleaner appeared to remove most of the grime on some older strings. In the hope it might prevent buildup I also used it on some newer strings. An added benefit is that the cleaner also shines the fretboard (mine is ebony). But to do the entire fretboard would take much more liquid. I clean my fretboard with a different product when I change strings. All in all I recommend this product and hope it can let me change strings less often.

I regularly use Music Nomad's F-One oil to condition the fretboards of my guitars. this helps to restore the deeper wood color and prevent them from drying out. However, after treating and re-stringing my guitar, there's always a residual amount of oil from the fretboard that gets transferred to the strings (even after wiping down the fretboard with a cloth). This results in black finger residue after playing just for a short amount of time.I thought I'd give this guitar string cleaner a shot to see if it would help clean my strings. I applied a small amount of cleaner to a cloth and wiped down each string with the cleaner; then repeatedly rubbed down the strings with a white cloth to check the amount of black build up. I had to wipe down the strings multiple times, but I can say that it's finally removed the oils to the point where my fingertips are no longer black after playing.I'm not sure how well this product extends the life of strings or removes finger oils over time, but based on how it cleaned the fretboard oil from the strings it seems like it would only help. I also didn't notice any significant difference with string squeaking; but I'm using this on electric guitars vs. acoustic where it would be more noticeable.Keeping skin and finger oils out of strings is certainly noted as a means of extending the useful life (as with coated strings). This guitar cleaner requires some elbow grease on your part to work, but does a good job of removing contaminants from oils that can build up over time. Highly recommended.

It works just as well as other string cleaners on the market. This doesn't have a quick applicator sponge like some of them, so it needs to be applied to a rag for cleaning.

This Guitar String Cleaner does begin the process of removing oxidation on my strings, but it doesn't really seem to complete the job. No matter how many times I wipe down the strings to clean them, black stuff keeps coming off onto the cloth. The instructions don't tell you to wash the strings afterwards or anything in order to complete the cleaning process and stop stuff from rubbing off onto your fingers later. When I play my instrument, I keep ending up with blackened fingertips. Also, the bottle doesn't seem to have a great seal after it's been opened, so you end up with oil all over the outside of it. I'm not sure if there is a quicker, more complete and less lingering string cleaner out there, but I hope so.

I have been using the Careful With That Axe guitar string cleaner with a couple of my guitars that I use regularly, and the product seems to do a good job at maintain the strings in good condition. I ran out of another name brand product I was using and the strings quicky began to oxidize from the buildup of grime and sweat that my fingers left on the strings. Before using this product, I changed the strings on the guitars and starting using this product and it seems just as effective as the other product is previously used at maintaining the strings on my guitars. This product is not too oily and seems to work well on the guitar strings, both, electric and acoustic guitars. I just pour a couple of drops on a microfiber cloth then wipe each string every time I am done playing with the guitar and weeks later, no oxidation or build-up on the strings. Granted, I do not play my guitars every day for several hours, so user experience with this product may vary, but for my purposes, I find this product is extending the life of the strings, which means better tones from the strings and less string changes. I feel this is an excellent product and will order another bottle as once I run out, no need to pay for an overpriced name brand product when this one work just as effectively.
