fulking

Shooting

The most common method of shooting a marble along the ground is known as 'FULKING'. The knuckle of the forefinger is put on the ground, and the marble is balanced on the bent forefinger. The thumb is placed behind the forefinger and then released with whatever force is required. This method is, however, less accurate than 'KNUCKLING DOWN' which is the method used by experts. The marble is held above the thumb's first joint by the forefinger's tip, and the middle finger holds the top of the thumb. The hand is kept quite still with the knuckle on the ground, and the thumb is released with the required force. With practice, great accuracy may soon be obtained with this method.

dobblers

Dobblers

Dobblers is a game for any small number of players. Each player contributes one or more marbles to a straight line of marbles spaced so that there is room for two marbles to pass through the gaps. Each player then shoots in turn and may keep any marbles they hit. The player's TAW remains where it lies at the end of their turn, and subsequent turns are played from where the TAW lies. A player whose TAW is hit by another TAW must add one marble to the line.

TAW is a name commonly used to describe the marble actually used.

knuckling down

Long Taw

For two players. Each player contributes a marble approximately 6'' (2m) apart. The players withdraw a further 6'', and the first player shoots their TAW at the first marble. If they hit it, they pocket it and shoot at the second marble, and if they hit that, they win the round, and the game starts again. If they fail to win the round outright, the opponent shoots at the marbles and the TAW. If the marbles are hit, the result is as described for the first player. If they hit the TAW, they capture whatever is on the ground.

marbles

Conqueror

An order of play is decided. The first player throws forward a marble to whatever distance they choose. They will generally determine the distance at which they shoot with the greatest accuracy. The next player then shoots at this marble. If they hit it, they capture it, and it becomes their property. They then throw out a new marble to restart the game. If they MISS it, however, their marble remains in the field. The third player then shoots at either marble, capturing whatever they hit but leaving their marble in the area if they miss. If a marble is shot with force and bounces off several marbles in the field, then all those hit are captured.

A pack of marbles can be as low as £1 so I feel ripped off by these. I mistakenly thought the marbles actually corresponded to the actual plants but they bear no resemblance in the slightest. I wanted them to teach my son about the galaxy but this is going to be that teaching moment. Any resemblance to planets is weak at best. There are much pretty marbles available, such as the bee ones or tropical ones, don't waste your money on these.

Went through the marbles to find the planets they represent. Ie one looked like Mars. Jupiter, the moon. My grandchildren loved that. Have sparked their interest in the planets

I should have read the reviews and the description better. This is a pack of marbles, one big, 20 normal size. Some are dimpled, some smooth. This pack has very little resemblance to our solar system. The big yellow one for our sun and a red one for Mars. Not even one that is a good representation of earth in blue and green. The only reason they are not going back is that my daughter really likes them, sadly, they do not represent our planets and can not be used in the teaching I had planned.
