These electrostatic charges can build over time and they will be dissipated via the point of the protruding screws that are connected to the conductive tape, which is grounded.

I opted for 4” PVC in my small shop instead of galvanized duct for my dust collection system, and was looking for an easy way to ground the PVC to prevent static build up.This does exactly what you’d expect, comes with ample supplies, and clear instructions. Clean your PVC well before putting the tape on, and dial the torque way down when you put the screws in, and you won’t have an issue.My only gripe is that the roll of tape really, really loved to enthusiastically unroll itself. Not a big deal, but a bit of a hassle.I’d buy this again, and have plenty of tape left over if I expand my system. McMaster-Carr has flanged screws if you need attentional ones.
