I got back into DDR after a decade hiatus and this was a great starting pad. It has held up well so far for my while I play Stepmania. I did have to tape it down so it doesn't slip anywhere. I basically just plugged in the usb and then was able to bind the arrows with no hassle. Definitely a great starter pad.

Note: I need to modify my rating. Despite my initial pleasure with this purchase, it lasted about only two weeks before the dance mat stopped responding. Thus, I am lowering from four stars to two, though one star would be more appropriate.It took a while to install the software, which seemed quite dated. However, once we did, the dance mat worked well. It has a good selection of songs and it provided quite a bit of entertainment for the children. The nice thing is it connects to the laptop and doesn't require an expensive console. It obviously isn't as sophisticated as DDR connected to an X-box, but comes at a fraction of the cost.Note: I need to modify my rating. Despite my initial pleasure with this purchase, it lasted about only two weeks before the dance mat stopped responding.

Just plug and play (on windows 10) downloaded stepmania and works really cool.
