I am happy to say this distributor works great. You will need to purchase the locking retainer clip if your old one is in anyway damaged so that the distributor does not bounce around while trying to time and adjust everything. Thank you 🙏

My 009 centrifugal advance was not working, so, I swapped it out with this one. Got to TDC, dropped right it, cranked right up.

It works like any other 009 distributor I have used in the past. It does “feel” cheap aestheticallywise. However, qualitywise, it works fine. Definitely not bad for the price. In regards to the distributor shaft‘s O-ring, it is quite thick. I was unable to install the distributor right away. It couldn’t go through the “clamp” that holds the distributor in place and is bolted to the case. I had to remove the O-ring, in order to install the “clamp” first. I’m sure this could be easily fixed.

Everything fit perfect except for the O-ring which was a little too big. Used the o-ring off the previous distributor and everything was fine.

Was helping a friend fix his sandrail, that had 2300cc type 4 with a turbo. One day it his Vw had completely lost spark and would not fire. Previous owner had installed a lockout distributor, aftermarket ignition box, and a crank sensor trigger to control spark. We finally figured out the crank sensor was not sending a signal. We replaced the sensor, but there was still no spark. I decided to go back to a points and condenser setup and for the price of a whole distributor, it was worth a shot. After Installing the Distributor with slight twist to get correct timing, the Engine fired right up, first attempt. He was just glad this Distributor got his Sand rail running, but it actually improved his bottom end power. This engine is warm blooded anyways and hates cold start. With the previous locked out distributor you had to finesse it to keep it idling until it warmed up and even then it was still soft and spongy on take off. Having some sort of mechanical advance made a huge difference, but could still be improved for this setup in particular. With this engine setup and still using the Ignition box to reduce timing in boost, His Sand rail runs better down low and has the same amount of power up top. This Distributor would probably be perfect for a stock type 1 engine, if you dont want vacuum advance. Im only giving this review a 4/5, i feel like this is a good product, but i dont know about its reliability or longevity. Hopefully i can change this to a 5/5 in the future.

Great backup, terrible for long term use. I got it just so I would have something in my boot just in case to get me home. And it works. I’d never have this as my permanent distributor though. It will give you the classic flat spot and other various problems. And probably not last that long either. Don’t change the jets in the carb to get rid of the flat spot that leads you to a world of problems. Just get a real distributor and have this behind the back seat in case the other one shorts or something.
