Bought a red light therapy lamp that came without a stand. This gadget allowed me to put it on a stand that I had. Like that it can be angled up or down.

There's a slot where the umbrella arm slides thru to be held in place. Well all it is, is a spring. There's almost no friction - the umbrella slides easily thru the hole. Just doesn't work for me. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the spring (yes, it's visible in the description, but still, you'd think it would work, at least a LITTLE bit).
