This is a great book for an art class when discussing folk art characteristics and art from other cultures. Fits in nicely with multiple national standards. 1 star off for shipping method- book dented/bent.

I love Lois Ehlert books. The illustration in this book is detailed, colorful and lovely. It is nice that the story highlights other cultures and their customs.

I love Lois Ehlert's work. I was privileged to attend a workshop with her a couple of years ago. She is amazing! I also love folk art so of course this book was so important to me -- that she took from her collection of folk art and made a story out of it. As someone who cannot draw but would like to tell stories, this has given me wonderful inspiration. I highly recommend this book. A teacher could ask the children to bring objects to school to share and make stories. Or ask them to try a story about a favorite toy. I recommend all of her books.

I bought this as a resource for a workshop I am doing on linking farming & gardening to classroom activities. Now see I will be able to use it as an important piece in art lessons. By far one of Ehlert's most original books.

I love Lois because she lives in Wisconsin. Her stories are always short and to the the point. In this example, what happens on Market Day. Her illustratios are so bright and colorful. Very appropriate for the young child. I love all of her stories.

I bought this book as a teacher, hoping to be able to use it for several ages (I teach K-5), but never found the right connection between the book and my students. I used it as an opening before an art project using toys, but the students were just not interested. I think this could be because they didn't recognize much from the pictures, but I can't say for sure. Was disappointed because I really like the photographs used.
