Typically, a new whisk has its tines tightly closed. This is to protect the bamboo tines during transportation and storage. Before using a new whisk for the first time, soak it in warm water for a few minutes to soften the tines and let them open naturally. An opened Chasen is more effective at creating rich and fine foam, which is important for tea ceremony enthusiasts. Please avoid using a whisk in boiling water to prevent severe deformation. It's normal for bamboo whisk to scatter or straighten after use. We recommend placing the whisk on the holder after use to help drying and maintain its shape.

The set items are well made and properly formed. The edges of the bamboo parts are smooth and free of splinters. The chasen (whisk) came with central bristles neatly twisted as typical and they bloom as expected with use. The chasen holder is appropriately sized to maintain the form of the chasen bristles and the glazing is consistent (no bubble or drip marks).

I plan to gift this so I've only done a cursory inspection of the contents but, so far, they look good and everything in tact. The whisk didn't look deformed, and the bamboo looked smooth (can't really tell though). I'll update after the recipient opens it to report anything of consequence.
