Brother, Sister, may the Lord give you Peace!
This is the greeting of St. Francis that we address with so much joy and deep sympathy.
Those who have met with St. Francis will find it natural to stop and pray a little with him. It is the best way to penetrate the secret of his soul and assimilate the deepest and most vital values of his message.
The first biographer, Tommaso from Celano, presents St. Francis as follows: "it was not so much a man who prayed, but a man who became the same prayer"
1 - Prayer before the Crucifix
This prayer, so bare and essential, lies at the beginning of the conversion of Francis. It contains the profound and irresistible vocation of the Saint to a life of humility and poverty. To achieve it requires light, strength, support.
High and Glorious God
Illuminate the darkness of my heart,
give me a straight faith,
certain hope and perfect charity,
deep humility,
wisdom and knowledge, o Lord,
for I to make your holy and true commandment

THE CRUCIFIX OF SAINT DAMIANO
The Crucifix of Saint Damiano is the cross-shaped icon in front of which Francis of Assisi was praying when he received the Lord's request to repair his house. The original cross is currently hanging in the basilica of Santa Chiara in Assisi. The Franciscans look after this cross as a symbol of their mission given to them by God.
In 1206, while St. Francis was praying in front of the Crucifix of San Damiano, the Lord asked him to repair his house
