I've had a few different types of meters over the last 25 years and this meter stands up well, and in some areas even better than some of the older ones I've used. As a finish carpenter this meter is very convenient for me to use when purchasing material for my clients. I always like to have a baseline reading to ensure the material I purchased is ready for install. Great for reading hardwood flooring which is a must before install.

I purchased the VOLCANOES CLUB Moisture Meter to detect water leaks and moisture in wood, walls, plaster, floors, and bricks. I was impressed with its accuracy and reliability, as well as how easy it is to use.The meter has two measurement modes: wood mode and building mode. The wood mode has 8 calibration ranges (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H) based on different types of wood materials, ensuring you get accurate results every time, ranging from 6% to 60%. The building mode is for building materials such as concrete and drywall, with a range of 1.5 - 33%. This is explained in the manual it comes with. The moisture meter has a large, easy-to-read backlit LCD screen and user-friendly humidity level indicator. This allows for quick and easy reading. It's also very easy to use. Simply insert the stainless steel pins into the surface of the measuring object, and the moisture content will be displayed on the screen.Overall, I am very happy with the VOLCANOES CLUB Moisture Meter. It is a great product that is perfect for anyone looking for a reliable and accurate moisture reading.

I bought this mainly to figure out if I have leaks behind drywall, but figured I could use it for wood as well down the line. I can't speak for its accuracy, as I don't have more sophisticated tools to compare it to, but so far it seems to work pretty well. It's a little baffling that some spots on drywall won't register on the BLDG setting at all, but then a spot next to it comes through OK. For me it's more of a general guide than the highly tuned use of professionals, but I'm glad I have it.

As a real estate professional, I work a lot with home inspectors, contractors, and buyers. From my perspective, I want to know if any areas of the home experienced water damage, and if so, is the leak still active? This meter tells me immediately if the material being tested is at a “normal” moisture level, or is retaining excessive moisture (an indication of an active leak). For example, one of the pics below shows me testing an area of drywall on the opposite side of a shower. With a reading of 12.9, (higher than the recommended average of 5- 10%), there’s a good chance that water is migrating behind the shower tile or through the grout joints, and the owner needs to have a contractor check it out.I’ve also used the meter when shopping for lumber at the two big-box home improvement stores. I can quickly separate the “wet” studs from those that are closer to being “dry,” reducing the possibility of twisting and warping as wet wood eventually dries out.The unit is easy to use. Just press the test probes into the material you want to test. Keep in mind that you may need to penetrate the surface to get an accurate reading. And yes, the probes will leave very small holes in the material.I’ve compared this unit against much more expensive devices used by professional home inspectors and found this tester to be every bit as accurate. The meter is “self-calibrating” based on setting the unit to the proper “scale” for the type of material being tested. Because the amount of moisture retained by wood can vary by type of tree, the manufacturer includes a list of different woods and the expected moisture content of each. While this info could be looked up online, it’s convenient to have the values with you without needing to research the recommended level every time you test a different type of wood/material.It comes with a fabric carrying case, an extra set of test probes, and protective rubber tips to prevent accidents. The display is bright and easy to read – even outdoors. The buttons are solid and responsive and the plastic case should hold up for years under normal use.I’ll sum up by saying the meter is very accurate, and for the money, represents an excellent value. I’ve recommended this unit to several home inspectors and contractors.

Easy to use and come with a set of instructions that list codes for various type of materials you can test it on as every material has a unique moisture level. Comes with everything you need out of the box including extra pins for the sensor and 2 AAA batteries. What i like about it is that it shows the temperature and a easy to read light indicator that shows moisture level (low, medium, high).I tested in around the toilets bowl where i see a gap and discoloration in the hardwood floor. The results were in conclusive. It may be an old leak or a user error. I need to play around with the tool a bit more.I did test it on another spot, under the kitchen sink where it looked dry but it had high moisture levels 34.5%. Upon further testing I found the leak which could have easily cause some major damage down the line…mold, etc.Overall, it is a nice tool to have and the price point is not bad. However, I feel like it is more for a regular or a contractor use than a occasional DIY user.
