I had a bit of disbelief that such a simple looking tool could possibly straighten out the twists in CAT6 wire. If you’re looking at this tool, you probably know that the twisted wire pairs must be straightened out as part of the preparation before adding a connector.Typically doing the wire straightening exercise is a bit time-consuming and isn’t so pleasant on the fingertips after a few connectors. I used this tool for one pair at a time, sometimes just one wire. I found that it works best to gently pull the wire through the straightener so that wire bends are rotated as to oppose the tool’s open end, allowing the jaws to iron out the kinks. If the wire doesn’t straighten with one try, rotate the wire slightly and do it again. Sometimes this is best done by the single wire. After a few tries, you get the hang of it and the straightening results are amazing. After orienting the wires properly, the connectors went on much easier than with my previous finger straightening efforts, because the wires were straighter.Sometimes it’s the simple time saving things that please the most! Recommended for any cable installer, amateur or professional.

These are nice little cheap tools to throw in a few tool bags or boxes. Are they the best quality? Not really. However, they aren't very expensive and they come with a point to pick between the pairs and pull the twist out. I usually do this with a fingernail and twirl it out or using a piece of the jacket itself. However, when going at it for a long while, a small tool can help to save your fingertips.Straightening takes a few passes, just like with other similar tools or whatever you may have used. It isn't perfect. The ring in the tool makes it easy to add in a small little wrist strap so one doesn't drop it somewhere that only archaeologists can discover in the far future.Overall, the design seems very generic since I've seen these exact ones floating around. For the price, these are a tiny bit more expensive than other, nearly identical, tools you can find out there. These are inexpensive tools that can be thrown in tool bags/boxes or given to coworkers. For a single cable or two, such as for my home, I probably wouldn't bother to dig into my bag to get this. However, for a fistful of cables, I'd probably strap this to my wrist to help with straightening.

If anybody has ever messed with CAT5 wire or any other ones in that category you know it's hard to strip back the rubber to get the bear wire. This is a very clever idea.

This is a simple contraption that helps you to separate cable strands. If you do a lot of crimping of ethernet cables, this saves quite a bit of time. This is the first time I've used something like this, and it's actually pretty coolBasically you just push the "blade" between each twisted pair and pull gently. That separates the wires and helps to straighten them out. They still don't come out perfectly straight and ready to crimp, but it does get them pretty close. Just put them in order and clip off the ends and you're good to go.You could probably craft something similar from materials on hand, but this is nicer than anything I could make. It also makes crimping about 2- or 3-times as fast as if you did it by hand.If you're doing a number of crimps, this is well worth it. I'll be using it from now onI like it!

This is the tool I didn't know I needed. Prior to acquiring this tool, I simply used my fingers or plastic pic. Wow, what a difference this makes. This works great with plain CAT5. It works equally well with shielded CAT6 with a center plastic divider. The pointed end pushes between the wires close to the cut jacket. Then just pull it out and the cables come out nice and straight. Repeat for each twisted pair and then one last pull across all together, and you are ready for a connector.Overall, a beautiful time saver. I love tools that save me time and frustration.
