  • Ford cups are made in accordance with the provisions of the American Society for Testing and Materials Standard for Paints and Raw Materials, ASTM D 1200, D333, D365, and are used to determine the adhesion of inks, paints, lacquers, and the like.
  • Used to determine the viscosity of inks, paints, lacquers, etc.
  • The Ford Cup has a small hole at the bottom and has a capacity of approximately 100ml.

Product Description

specifications

  • Cup volume: 100±1ml
  • Diameter of hole: 4.10 mm
  • Maesurement Range:70-370 cStout
  • Flow time: 20-105 sec

Usage

  1. before use should be selected with a suitable solvent to wipe the inner wall of the cup (Note: Please pay special attention to the cleaning of the cup body holes, can be twisted into a rope of soft paper, in the outflow holes in the repeated pull); and then dry in the air or with a cold wind blowing dry, do not allow the past measurement of the liquid residue adhering to the cup or the outlet of the flow.
  2. the selection of appropriate cup number, in order to control the outflow time between 20 ~ 80 seconds (see technical parameters)
  3. the test solution is stirred and filtered in not less than 567 holes / cm2 of the sieve, and make the sample and outflow cup temperature adjustment to (23 ± 0.5 ℃) or another agreed temperature
  4. Adjust the Ford Cup holder so that the top horizontal bubble is centred.
  5. the sample will be injected into the Ford Cup, at the same time with a finger to block the outflow hole (if corrosive liquids can be used to block the outflow hole baffle), filled with a metal or glass plate in the cup scraping, excess sample scraped into the viscosity cup edge grooves, placed to take over the cup.
  6. will release the finger or push away from the baffle, the specimen flow out vertically, and at the same time open the stopwatch. When the first breakpoint to stop the clock, the seconds of outflow time is the viscosity value of the sample to be measured.
  7. repeat the measurement three times, take the average value for the final reading.
  8. immediately with a suitable solvent for its cleaning. Never use metal cleaning tools or wire. If the flow out of the hole is stained by dry sediment, should be suitable solvents to make it soft, and then carefully cleaned, such as using a soft cloth through the flow out of the hole to pull the cleaning.

  • The results obtained for a particular immersion cup are expressed in ‘seconds’ at a specified temperature. To convert ‘seconds’ to centistokes, see ASTM D 4212. k:3.7 c:400
