My old John Deere 170 lawn tractor with the Kawasaki FV420 engine wouldn’t start this past week (which was odd since it ran fine when parked), and a quick diagnosis was no spark. Went to my local JD store and got a new spark plug and talked what the parts guys about an igniter and coil. They said the coils rarely fail and that they used to replace plenty of the igniters. They also told me the John Deere part was like $114 dollars and that they didn’t have them. Well, as I was about to order one, they parts guy said there were plenty of generic replacements on Amazon for far less. Happy to get his intel, I hit my Amazon app and found this part and ordered it on the spot.The part arrive the next day and with only one minor issue to deal with (the mounting hole was too small for the screw),I had it installed and the tractor fired right up. Considering the price, I’ll likely order a second just to have on hand.Can’t go wrong for the price and ease repair. Definitely recommend this part if you’re in the situation I was.

Had starting issue on John Deere LX173. Confirmed issue was lack of spark. Replaced spark plug, still no go. Replace this part and she fired up immediately.Great replacement part.

Ordered this aftermarket igniter for my 30 year old JD 170 riding mower as one day it would not start. Testing indicated it had no spark. Research indicated issue could be either the igniter or the coil. Found resistance specs on both and the igniter did not pass these checks while the coil did. Ordered this after market to verify this resolved my issue as it was 1/3 of the cost of the OEM igniter with the idea that if it did not resolve I would have spent less money to find out. Tractor started first time but durability will be the key factor.Follow up after about 5 hours of use the lawn mower died 3 times while mowing the lawn today, After about a minute the mower would start and run again but after the 3rd time I parked it. Although I cannot be certain the replacement igniter is the fault, experience tells me typically when something goes wrong fairly soon after repairs, start with the last thing that was replaced.
