Shipping is excessive but they do finish off the log installation. The pieces should be separated and placed one at a time to simulate a glowing ember bed. There is actually more than enough embers for a 20 inch log system. I used about half.

I’ll get the negative stuff out of the way first. On Amazon there was no description of the amount (ounces, etc) of embers you would receive. Paying 21.99 + $10.74 shipping I thought there would be a fair amount, at least the same size as bags of regular embers. When it came, I was stunned. Inside the small box was a very small baggie….about the size you might put a bit of candy in for the kids. I could have put my hand inside and gathered up all of the embers. The 10.74 shipping is horrible. NOW, for the good. The embers are absolutely WONDERFUL. I didn’t even need the full baggie. They look real and seem to actually radiate warmth on their own. Apparently they last at least 5 years. I’m rating them at a 4 because of the awful shipping charges.
