This all-in-one cassette player and recorder plus digital converter unit doesn't take up much more space than a standard walkman but gives lots of flexibility for different uses. I wanted to make digital copies of a bunch of cassettes I had kicking around, and they weren't archival or anything that would merit professional digital transfers, so this unit sounded like it would give me the ability to cleanly do what I wanted to do without getting lost in a tangle of wires and recording software and volume adjustments. Playback quality is pretty good for a unit that is from a brand I'm unfamiliar with, and the record quality I've gotten with the digital files is better that I was prepared for given how old some of the tapes are. For what I needed to do, this met my need almost perfectly. No complaints and all five stars were completely earned.

I got this for tape to MP3 conversion, and it works really well! The sound quality once moved to another platform is crisp and clear.Easy to use, after visiting the instruction manual to get the steps. This unit has some additional cool features I didn't expect. For example, it can take MP3 data from the SD card slot and you can record that on to a blank cassette. You can use this device as a voice recorder on cassette OR directly to SD as an MP3.I tried all of these features after finding them, and all worked well! The Mic is unlabeled on the unit, so if using as a voice recorder, know that the Mic is right by the speaker, in the upper left of the speaker area. This unit does have some weight to it, but not so much it's cumbersome, unless you hold it for a while. This unit can operate on batteries and/or DC 5V (a cable comes in the box). If you use the DC cable, the unit doesn't use the batteries. The unit also comes with a micro SD card (16 GB), and a micro SD to USB A adapter for plugging into your PC.The drawbacks (reason for 4 Stars):Moving sound from the SD to Cassette, you lose some quality, and things sound a bit tinny. Also, it's not ideal that when using REW or FWD on the cassette, it doesn't shut off when it reaches the end of the cassette. Instead the motor just stays on, trying to maintain the requested action.

This is not the worst tape player I've used, but it's not the best. It's beefy, especially when you put batteries in it. My scale put is at 400g. A well written manual is included that is larger print, so it's easy to read. It even has a nice diagram of rewinding a tape with a pencil that was a good bit a nostalgia. The small speaker is enough to hear what's going on in the recording, that's about it. The only input is the SD card, which you can't use anything over 32GB. It's nice that they included a a 16GB card because 32GB is quite small these days. You can play audio files from or record to the SD card. The interface is a little clunky, but it works. My biggest gripe with the interface is being able to time the start of a track. It will jump to the previous track no matter how far you are into a track, so you have to go back and forward to index back to zero and it's just about impossible to pause at zero to get the tape ready to record.I like that it can be powered by USB C and the battery compartment feel secure. It's got decent volume considering the small speaker. The button controls feel solid and (after breaking them in a bit) are reliably fully engaged or disengaged. Sometimes that can be a little soft on tape decks. Voice recording is possible with a built-in speaker. It doesn't sound awesome, but it sounds like an old fashion voice tape recording, so that may be what you're going for.The audio quality of the tape playback (and thus the recording quality) is mid-range. It's not perfect. There is a warble that's a little worse than other players I've heard.Inserting a tape is simple, but the door doesn't always line the tape up perfectly when inserting it, you have to fish it around a bit sometimes. Not terrible, but worth mentioning. I have not had any issue with it eating tape. I do like that there a little ramp at the top of the door that makes removing a tape a lot easier. Now to the part where I dropped it while recording. Take into account that this is a gear-driven mechanical device, it really shouldn't be dropped. So that is absolutely on me. However, this isn't much larger than a Walkman, which if you were alive when those were around you know, they got dropped A LOT and still chugged along. This was dropped from about a foot and a half, maybe two. It bounced off of my leg and hit the floor rolling, so I'm not sure how hard it hit. I pulled it off the table when the headphone wire snagged something I was moving. Afterwards it still works, but there is a periodic warble that is more pronounced than before it happened. I suspect I damaged a tooth in a gear involved in the tape feed mechanism as it happens on playback and recording.I used another tape player to analyze the quality of the recording so I could tell how good it was before the damage. It's not great. Recording from the SD card resulted in a somewhat distorted and maxed out recording compared to another tape recorder. It's impossible to adjust the recording volume, so you'd have to lower the amplitude of the sound file on a computer if you run into the same problem. Even the lower volume music was not as clear as the version of the recording I was comparing against.Considering the durability, the mediocre sound quality and the clunky interface, I'm not blown away by this player, recorder. It's not terrible, and I don't think it's an unreasonable price for what it does and the fact that it comes with an sd card and reader, I'm just not sure I'm actually going to use it given other options.

I am an old Gen X rock journalist from "back in the day" and I have a crapload of old rockstar interviews still lurking around on cassette that I have needed to digitize, literally, for decades but haven't wanted to farm it out to a service because I am convinced my tapes will either somehow mysteriously get "broken" or "accidentally misplaced" or other some such story because of the caliber of what they are and the material that is on them. When I saw this little gem, I jumped on it! It has been a little rockstar itself in helping me get these tapes onto hard drives and SD cards in multiple places so I'm sure to never lose them. YAY!!! For the most part, it's easy to work with despite a few kludgy aspects to the interface, but nothing this hardcore Gen Xer can't "figure out," like we are prone to do. We got this! Highly recommended.

Exactly what I needed. Cassette tapes can be easily recorded directly to the SD card. I hope it lasts!

Work pretty well and was able to transfer cassette files onto the supplied SD card with no problem. Initially I thought you could transfer directly onto the USB stick but that is not the case. I not certain why they supplied the stick but it wound up being defective anyway. Both my Mac and PC would not recognize or format it.
