Wire spacing is 7/8-inch.

I love the cage size. We went with three story for our two new ferret babies. I liked the fact I could add a 4th story as needed as they grew. When item arrived box was damaged. Didn't think much of it since packages get handled crazy in shipment. Our child was having major surgery so we were not home when it arrived it was left on porch. It was a few days before we actually had a chance to put together again bc our daughter had major surgery and we had to care for her so it's my fault I should have checked item right away. But we finally tore box open and when I mean open my husband opened the box lol and it was destroyed needless to say. All the pieces seem to be there and bolts. Did not see instructions needless to say and putting together was a nightmare without them. I had to bring up picture of cage online and maneuver thru that. We noticed about halfway thru installation there were some pieces that the rails were bent in and the doors seemed to be warped. I'm guessing from shipment since box was damaged. But we continued on putting together bc we were literally over half way. And I needed the cage bc the ferrets were getting out of the other cage we had them in. So I had no choice but to put it together. I contacted Amazon and they refused to help. Only option they said was return for refund. I told them I didn't want refund but I felt that a percentage should be credited for the damages. Again they were no help. I was transfered 7 times and had to repeat myself all 7 times to get no where except rude customer service reps so here I am paid full price for a dented warped cage all bc I needed it and didn't have time to disassemble send back wait for them to receive to get credit to purchase another on. Some people may have the means to buy another one and then worry about sending original back from refund but unfortunately we are a one income family of 7 so money isn't freely disposable for us like that. So please inspect the cage thoroughly before starting to assemble. I also should have ordered cage before I picked up the babies but they were on sale so it was more of an impulse birthday present for our daughter.

The actual cage is nice but the instructions do not work with having a previous cage. They say to add the cage to the bottom and move the other to the top: It does not work. After trying to follow the directions I had to completely undo all of it. You have to put the level upside down on the top for it to work. It was not worth the time I spent fixing it. The screws are also extremely easily stripped and very cheap.

I just received and added to my prevue ferret cage. I found the assembly easy. The pieces fit together easily and the new tower feels sturdy and is roomy for my 3 ferrets. I have seen some negative in previous reviews, but my first impression of the cage add-on is that it is great! It is of course a little challenging to clean ferret poop from between the spaces on the edge, but that is not a flaw in the cage itself. Its' just what it is!

Instructions are a little iffy, I ended up going online.My Instructions advised to remove my old top, add this section, then add my old top on top of this. That did not work. This section had to be added to the top, which required undoing all my previous work. It didn't fit perfect but after a bit I got it fitted. The last issue as many have mentioned is the cage door latch is upside down but that was easily fixed with a screwdriver. The latch is definately a bit off, but my chinchilla is happy.I gave a 4 for the assembly and the latch. I do feel this addition will last as long as I need it to and does work as I'd hoped.

First, let me say the Feisty Ferret cages I have bought from Prevue Pet have been amazing. They have spent many years outside, show very little rust, and have stood up to a couple hundred orphan baby opossums and squirrels. They have been perfect pre-release cages. And the new levels look as sturdy, but had several assembly issues that were not up to their normal standards -- making me wonder if it will hold up as well as the others have.First, there were two screw holes that were not completely opened (see photos). I was able to grab some tools and open them up, but that was two modifications I needed to make. Then, the door lock catch was installed upside down. Luckily, I already had the tools out and turned the catch over so it holds the locking bar in place. (If you are keeping score, that's three so far.)To make assembly easier, they had labels attached showing the bottom of each panel. They were very nice silver stickers...that left adhesive behind!! So I grabbed the adhesive remover and cleaned that up.Finally, they changed the design of their "hatch covers" that close off levels. They no longer have the hooks that snug-up against the side bars. That means they easily slide to the side to open up a 1" gap -- big enough to let some smaller animals through. So I'll have to rig up something with binder clips or wire to hold the cover in the right position when it's closed. (I have 1/2 inch wire mesh covering the outside. But I need access to the inside hatch covers.)I'm really disappointed and hope that it's not a trend. I love their products and want to be able to rely on their normal level of wonderfully sturdy, high quality items. I'm going to have to replace one of the larger cages soon (9 years outside! Pretty impressive). So I have my fingers crossed this was just an "off day" for them.

My squirrel now has 3 tiers in the old cage. it fits the old-style cage but it is on the top upside down and the door latch is flipped so it would lock. the door is on the opposite side of the cage. It looks and functions great.
