My Polaris PBSQ4 booster pump failed for the second time in less than two years. The pump housing design is not mechanically sound and it cracks unexpectedly. Fortunately, I was able to turn everything off before it drained my pool and destroyed the rest of my equipment.I waited several months for a replacement housing from Polaris, but to this day, they are still unavailable. I found this solution on Amazon and it works great! The wiring was the same, just removed it from the old pump and installed it on the new one. The hose connections were the same with the exception that the inlet/outlet on the pump are actually one 1" diameter, but the pump came with adapters for both 1" and 3/4" threads, as well as new hose. Replacement took less than an hour and, so far, the system is running well. I guess time will tell, but this pump seems to be well-made, runs quietly, and is less than half the cost of the Polaris.

Was skeptical since I'm not familiar with company and almost no reviews. I took a chance and so far I'm very satisfied. Ive been through 3 Polaris - PB4-60 and have nothing to lose in trying a new pump. If this one fails I'll switch to a battery, cordless system and abandon the pump altogether. Install was straight forward but I did need to adjust plumbing and took me longer finding my tools than installing. Wiring was simple but always confuses me when I see green wire that is not a ground (green was on the bus). It's basic hook-up, L1, L2 and a ground in center of plastic housing. Also the exterior bonding wire. Don't attempt if you're not familiar...you can electrocute anyone going into pool. What surprised me the most was the sound level. It's almost silent. I cannot tell it's on when main pump is running. Operates vacuum beautifully. Very happy with purchase and will update review if I have a problem. Hopefully it lasts more than 2 years.I deducted a star because the box and pump came damaged. Seller needs to double box. I almost returned but took a chance and it's fine.

UPDATE - 1/2024Had to purchase yet another one of these units (#3). The end cover is made of hard plastic that will crack if you have a freeze. Mfr does not sell the piece alone to fix the unit, and will NOT honor the warranty due to this. Extended (Allstate) warranty won't either--this is considered 'act of God' event. That said, if you have a freeze coming, drain your booster and run the bypass hoses to keep the system circulating. Do not keep this unit connected (even if not running) as it will crack and cause leaks.ORIGINAL REVIEWThis is a review of the PuriTech Uniboost Booster pump, replacing a Pentair LA-MS05.I chose this unit because of the price at the time of this writing ($279) and it's similarity to the Pentair.Feel free to ask my any quesitons about it.As a first-timer replacing a booster pump, I wanted to ensure the change would be as simple as possible.I blocked off 2 hours for the job. If you are the handy type, esp with electrical matters, this should be fairly easy. You're removing 2 hoses and 3 wires for the whole job.UNITThe box received was labeled AquaPro Systems, and it was Uni-Boost Model 51500-AQP1.Package came with a manual, hose and 4 connections (see pic).Their website is EcoAquaPro.com Manual was faily simple but hard to find online.SIZEIf you are replacing a Pentair, this unit is almost exactly the same size as the LA-MS05.The electrical conduit fits on the same side as the Pentair.Unit weighs about 25 pounds so very similar in weight as well.On the plus side, the inlet and outlet ports are reinforced on this unit, where the Pentair only had a metal ring on the side.WIRINGThe wiring is pretty straightfoward. Three wires come out of the existing conduit. Black, red and green.See the images for the wiring diagram for the 230V connection. The ground wire is a bit tricky to maneuver through the small space so take some time.L1 is Black, L2 is Red and green for the ground. Manual shows the wiring diagrams for 230V and 110V.NOISEThe unit runs extremely silent. It is alot quieter than my prior Pentair when it was new.You can barely tell it is on.In summary, with the limited options for a booster pump, their horrendous prices and limited warranty, this unit is a great alternative.WIll it last more than a year? Time will tell. But you can't beat the price. Puritech looks legit with other pool equipment they sell.
