Works as intended, very well. Only 4 stars due to being only available in one color, stark white, and the fact they do not connect the bridge pup to a tone control. Just the neck and middle. Easily remedied by soldering a small 1" wire across the ports. They come with a premium price tag, for what it is, so the penny it costs for the wire it should already be there

The tone pots look like Chinese pots with seymour’s logo. They have a dragging sound that can be heard through the amplifier. You can feel and hear the dragging sound very distinctively amplified or not. Really regret the purchase. The instructions are completely useless.

The product I received from the seller NiceSoundStop was not a genuine seymour duncan product. The seller misrepresented the product, despite receiving an earlier inquiry from me about whether it's assembled by someone other than the Seymour Duncan company. So, this rating is not about the BYOP, but points out dissatisfaction with the seller. Furthermore, this knockoff (devoid of seymour duncan tone pots + capacitor, or the beautiful soldering depicted in pics) came without any wiring diagrams! As far as the BYOP is concerned, Seymour Duncan doesn't specify how the liberator pot's ports are connected; that would make it easy to figure out a wiring from the regular (soldered) wirings provided on their website. It seems to me that the 2 middle gray ports on the pickup connector row are connected to the ground/back of the liberator pot so that tone pots' backs wired to these gray ones get earthed eventually; and all others are just a way to join a pickup wire to the one that flows out from beneath that port. The 4 pot connectors are indicated though: 1 for in, 1 for out and 2 for earthing.Basic circuit info: One end of a pickup coil is earthed (ground connection created on the back of pots), and the other end carries signal to output (via switch) and is called the "hot wire"; actually it branches into the tone+cap and vol pots, after passing through switch. Now check out the "hot" and "ground" ends for different kinds of pickups:For 4-wire SD humbuckers, black = hot, red+white joined (can held together in a single port), green + bare = ground. For duckbucker, black+red = hot, green+white+bare = ground. For SD single coils, white = hot, black = groundFor stacks,...(check out the pickup info included in pickup box... I may not be 100% accurate about the color codes as i'm quoting from memory; and of course there are other options in setups outside the realm of BYOP)As a start-point/reference, you might look up the "everything axe" liberator wiring diagram to see how the pickups are connected to switch and ground using a liberator. (this diagram is especially useful if you are going for 3 lil humbuckers, but remember that the duckbuckers have a different method of connection. So, adjust accordingly if you're not using a duckbucker in the middle position):-In fact, you might look up how the 2 ends of a pickup are connected in any (regular soldered) wiring of your choice, (i looked up the 3 lil hum, 2 tone, 1 vol, 5 way switch). And then translate it to a liberator setup. The only hindrance to deciphering could be not knowing how the switch makes a connection. So, learn this part beforehand if you encounter difficulties.Hope this helps those who are new to this (just like me)... in figuring out connections and modifications based on BYOP. Just need to study1) basic/theoretical pickup wiring scheme2) how the 5 way switch works.

I used this product to change my HSS Fender Standard (MIM) Stratocaster over to an SSS Strat. I reused two of the old DiMarzio Area 67 pickups, and added a Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 to the bridge. I had never set one of these up before but installation was easy and straight forward. You may have to lengthen some of the wires in your cavity but again I had issues with techs who had improperly installed previous upgrades and had improperly shortened key wires. (This was not the pickguard's fault.) MAKE SURE you match the wiring codes of your pickups to the Seymour Duncan color codes. I knew DiMarzio and SD use a different color code and adjusted the wiring accordingly saving time & headaches. Installation was easy, and that was with me having vision and fine motor skill issues. I was impressed.Once I got the BYOP pickguard wired in and the pickup heights readjusted, the improvement in my tone was immediately noticeable, even with my old pickups! The BYOP pickguard uses high quality potentiometers, capacitors, five-way switch, and jack. These "little things" make a huge difference in tone and many people could avoid pickup changes just by upgrading to this harness. Its that good! This Strat is my #1 guitar and always will be. The BYOP pickguard did three things for it: (1) breathed new life into my Strat by allowing for fairly simple pickup changes (2) freed me from being at the mercy of so called "guitar techs" who do shoddy work (3) allowed the guitar to sound the best it ever has since I bought it!Given those considerations, the purchase price was very much worth it, and I'll be installing one in any other Strat I buy.I just wish it came in more pickguard colors. I also wish something like it was available for my Gibson SG!
