The Sun Joe chippers are great for small yards, but the belts will eventually break and I called Sun Joe and they were no help on how to replace the belt. I guess I must be first to try. They sell replacement belt, but can't tell you how to replace it????? Doesn't seem right but wish me luck.Few days later: Oh my what a mess. Don't try and replace belt; just buy a new chipper.

The belt which I received was NOT too short. I found a diagram online which showed how everything fits together. I managed to get it all apart and even back together so that it was working. At that point, I had had enough and decided to just buy the 603. I'm glad I did because my experience shows the 603 is a much better machine, even if they aren't selling the replacement part which is most likely to need replacing. I put the 601 on Craigslist and within hours a better mechanic than I was willing to take on the challenge. This was an extremely difficult challenge although I don't think it is impossible for mere mortals. I'm glad the 601 didn't go to a landfill and that I now have a machine I have to consider much better, and probably longer lasting than the 601. I come away with great respect for the quality of material in the 601, but the design probably should have been more "fixer-friendly." I think the 603 is that--if they ever offer the part most likely to wear out. Good luck! I wouldn't do this again.

Managed to dismantle my Sun Joe CJ601E & the belt is not the correct size. The replacement about 6mm is too small

I like that the belt arrived in good condition. Sun Joe's owner's manual led me to believe a broken belt could be replaced. I could not find replacement instructions. I spoke with Sun Joe's customer service and they advised against replacing the belt. Well I was up to a challenge and disassembled the broken unit. Yep, the replacement is impossible for a homeowner. A better choice is to buy a new Sun Joe wood chipper and consider it as a disposable tool. Run it until the belt breaks and then dispose.
