I was looking for a hot plate to use outdoors to deep fry so as not to mess up my kitchen. I thought 1500 watts would do the job but it took almost 15 minutes on high to boil water in a saucepan. The unit also got very hot and didn't seem like it was really made for that much heat so it made me a little nervous. It would probably be fine for heating food but I'm returning it. I would need a better one for deep frying.

I have a single burner cast iron hot plate which always takes FOREVER to heat up, so I bought this hot plate with a coil heating element, hoping for better performance, and i was not disappointed. The first time I used it, I was making a grilled cheese sandwich, and, being used to my old one, I actually wound up slightly burning it even though the hot plate was set to low! Actually, the low setting is too high, so that is an issue with the burner. Initially, I was very pleased with it, until something spilt on the burner area, burned to a crisp, and there is no way to raise the coils to clean it. I was thrilled with it until that happened, now I'm not sure that I'll keep it.

OK, this will sound strange, but every since I started cooking on a glasstop range, I have had to forego certain foods because the cooktop is not conducive to certain things. For example, my family loves Mexican food and tacos are not nearly as good if you do not lay the tortillas on a hot burner to char a bit. Doing this on a glasstop is very messy and difficult to clean. The other thing I have found with both glasstop ranges (LG and Fridgidair) that I have owned is that neither has temps low enough to simmer. This little burner fixes that also.

Although I have a oven with a stove top I wanted a small burner as an additional Heating product, and this definitely does the job at 1200 watts! It heats up very quickly, maintains the Heat so much so I had to turn it down to low! With my other one I had to keep it on high all the time to get some semblance of heat. I like this product because it is just simply not a round element with very little support around it, it has at least a 2 inch circumference around the element itself which helps with balancing of big pots and big frying pans. All in all I would recommend this, not only from the Heat point of view but the price point of view and it is worth all the +-$30 I paid for it. If you want a small burner that sits stable on 4 feet, heats up quickly and does the job of an external burner, I recommend this highly.
