What is European Beech Wood?
European beech wood is hardwood, which is hard as iron, harder than hickory wood. This is the very hard very dense wood for hammer handle, wide use for sledge hammer.
How to replace?
1. Drilling out the broken handle from the old head
2. If the handle eye is bigger than your hammer head, You should trim off a bit of wood on each side of the replacement handle shaft until it would tightly fit into your hammer head
