This thing puts out a massive flame. It is a very well-distributed flame that is much softer than other torches, preventing hot spots in the finish. We added extra crust on a brisket the other day that would have taken forever with a smaller torch, and this one handled it beautifully. It says that it can be used upside down, but tie back your hair before trying that one. It seems a little temperamental upon being tilted. The valve on the end is quite finicky -- that is probably my one criticism. It also has a lot of metal, so it is heavy and will get hot. But I don't see that as a negative. In fact, I think the heavy brass head, and copper heat tubes are why the flame comes out so beautifully. Oh - I did need to adjust the igniter rod because it wasn't working very well at first. So I guess that's another criticism. But I've literally never used another torch that put out a flame like this one, so I'm going to keep my review at 5-stars.

This is such a simple handy tool for the kitchen and around the house, I think everyone should have one in their house. It's so simple to use, and the butane canisters are available anywhere. These are the canisters roughly the size of spray paint cans with the short nozzle that you commonly use for butane tabletop burners. You just match the notch on the can to the tab on the nozzle and turn a little bit to tighten. Then turn the knob on the back to release the butane, and then squeeze the trigger to ignite. It's so good for putting a sear on things, like Miso Black Cod, or Creme Brulee. I mostly use mine for making seared Ahi, Salmon, and Hamachi nigiri sushi. You can also use this to blast the surface of a steak to get a char on it (but it's not strong enough to cook the steak on its on). It also has other household uses, anywhere you need to apply heat like a pipe.
