As others have mentioned, I picked this up to clean the threads on my lathe spindle after a set screw messed some of the back ones up. I found that I could not get it started past the first thread or two before it started cutting the surfaces of the threads. The front threads were fine, and take my faceplates and chucks without issue, so I expect the die to thread on without issue until it hits the mangled threads.Tried this on my other lathe as well, also with a good 1"8TPI spindle, and got the same problems. Not sure if this was a QA problem or something that got mislabeled, but the unit I received was not properly threaded.

I purchased a lathe on Craigslist-spindle was messed up. Thought I would have to scrap the thing. Tried this Die, muscled it on with pipe wrench-did not spring for handle. Worked GREAT, my chucks & faceplate turn right on now. Only draw back is I suspect I will never need it again, kind of a one use thing. Anybody need one?

Through an error caused by myself, I messed up the threads on my brand new lathe's spindle. Cost of a new spindle was about $50. Cost of the die and handle was about $25.On arrival, I found that the die wouldn't start in the threads. Fortunately, my neighbor and woodworking buddy was a retired machinist. He said, "no problem" and proceeded to use the die to re-cut the threads. This die was shipped direct to me from China, something not mentioned in the description. But it arrived early and was the only one I could find to buy. What I learned was:1. Read the manual on new tools to avoid breaking them in the first 5 minutes.2. This was a good thread-cutting die.3. Know what you're doing - without the neighbor who knew how to do it, I would have ended up buying a new spindle and having the die and handle sitting unused.

I have started making bowls on the lathe and this die matches the main mounting point on my lathe. I planned to use it for threading wood. I did manage to make it work, but I had to mount it into a block of wood in order to grip it well and then I had to mount the block of wood onto the lathe in order to hold it perpendicular to the dowel I was trying to thread. The, by going back and forth, I did managed to thread the dowel such that I could twist it into a tapped piece of wood. Pretty cool, except that I am not sure how I will ever use this . . .
