It features a bright, 4x magnification on a bright 2.25 x 2.25" viewing screen. The light bar lock provides constant illumination by not having to hold the button. It operates on two "C" batteries (not included)

The slide-viewer was of VERY! flimsy construction -- a cheap plastic housing with an ordinary flashlight bulb as the illuminator. A slide viewer of this poor quality would be expensive at $5.00 let alone $ 73.91.

I sent it back because as advertised there was no plug and there was nowhere to put any batteries I purchased it from somewhere else for much cheaper with the cord that works great

Hopefully just a quality control issue, but mine arrived non-functional. New batteries, properly inserted, but nothing worked. Bulb looked OK, but there was something wrong with the switch. Returned and replaced with the Panavue 2 viewer. Smaller (and presumably dimmer) and cheaper, and it worked just fine. The new viewer has a similar switch, but did not connect quite the same way to the battery compartment - might be a better design.

Just what we needed! Very pleased

Good, but only usable as long as you have slides. My need for it was temporary.

Delivery was quick, good job. But the screen is very small - smaller than a smart phone and, of course, you can't expand the picture. This is good enough for sorting slides, but not great for looking at them in detail.

Buyer Beware - This item's description is misleading.I recently inherited a large (500+) box of slides that belonged to my dad's family. I want to have certain slides converted to DVD, but not all of them. I needed a way to view each of these slides. I ordered the Pana-Vue 1 Lighted 2X2 Slide Film Viewer because the description stated, "The Pana-Vue Automatic Lighted 2x2 Slide Viewer for 35mm allows you to stack and view up to 36 slides and view with a easy push-pull operation." This description is inaccurate as the Pana-Vue 1 Lighted 2x2 Slide Film Viewer will only allow you to insert one slide at a time. The conversion of these slides is time sensitive, and I do not have the time, nor inclination, to go through 500+ slides inserting and removing them one at a time. I cannot attest to this product's quality as I returned it as soon as I opened the box and realized it would not meet my needs. Amazon customer service was prompt in sending me a Return Authorization Slip. I requested the description of this item be changed as it is misleading. I have had great success with Amazon in the past; however, I am frustrated that I now have to return this item, wait for a refund, order an item that will meet my needs, wait for delivery, and pay shipping again.

I dinged this one star simply for the fact that this should be about a $20 item considering the build quality. I had to jiggle it significantly to get the batteries settled in for it to start working. Once they were in place, it does what it needs to do. I was able to leave the light on and quickly drop slides in and out for sorting.

This slide viewer is great. I have looked through over two thousand slides with it. We are converting our old slides to DVDs at Costco and this is perfect. Before I purchased this I was just taking all the slides from a slide tray and putting them into the Costco boxes. When I got back the DVD I realized I could have thrown away 1/4 of the slides-they had no meaning now for us. With this viewer I preview each slide (takes a few seconds) and either throw the slide away or put it into the box for Costco. Now when I get back the DVDs I don't feel like I wasted my money on slides I don't want to see anymore. I bought it with the electric cord so I don't have to worry about batteries. It makes the slide big and bright enough that you can easily decide if you want to keep it or toss it. You can either just press the button on top to light up the slide or leave the light on-I just press the light as I pop the slide in-so easy! It paid for itself with the money I saved on the slides I threw away instead of having made into a DVD.

In this digital age not many will need this viewer but I have hundreds of slides from years ago I wanted to scan. Needed a way to view the potential candidate slides in a small space and be able to show my kids while I was working on them. My parents owned a Pana-View for decades, so I bought one. Works on wall tranformer or c-cell batteries which last a long time and it shows plenty of detail so you can see any dust or problems with each slide. This viewer shows one slide at a time in full-screen, not as fast as a tray style or light table where you can lay out a dozen or more slides at once but those don't enlarge the slide for inspection and you end up viewing them twice for the same effect. Simple, effective, no moving parts to wear out and well made. Very happy with this product.

it works fine, it is identical to the one I bought in 1960. My old one got rust in the contacts from disuse, so I needed a new one. None of the stores in town carried it, so io went to Amazon and there it was. Hard to believe it hasn't changed in 50 years. I am converting old slides to my computer but need to review them before I put them in the converter. I have a pile of assorted slides to organize and am using the slde viewer to do it!

I received the Pana-Vue #1, made sure the batteries were inserted correctly, then put in a slide. Nothing. Put the batteries in another device to make sure the batteries were okay. Put the bulb in a flashlight to make sure the bulb was okay. Everything checked out, but I could not get this thing to work. Then I went to work trying to figure out how this slide viewer got its juice. I was able to discern that a connection was not being made and I bent one of the copper connectors so the existing gap was no longer there. I got it working but, really, this is a VERY poorly made product and the electrical design looks like something out of the early days of electricity. Now that I have it working, the image of the slides is slightly distorted and not bright enough. Don't waste your money.

This is a functional but flimsy slide viewer. It does the job, however, vast improvements could be made at little cost. The incandescent bult should be replaced with a high intensity, white LED. Besides using less current, the LED would virtually last forever. In addition, the bi-metal switch that turns on the light is unreliable. The light came on a couple of times by itself, just due to setting the viewer down. A hermetically sealed, momentary contact switch would solve this problem.
