Either you’re in on solder free or you’re out. I was on the fence but I wanted to customize my pedal board and clean it up. I’m 4 years in on these and have had zero issues or complaints other than the cable itself is unreasonably expensive. I used the lava tightrope cable. Would buy again , just wish it wasn’t so pricey.

This is a review of a 4 years experience after buying lava cables. When you build a medium or big sized pedalboard, solderless cables are the holy grail in terms of customizing your gear. They come with all the tools needed to do the job and installing them is quite easy. However, pedalboards are constantly changing and sometimes you change or add a pedal and that possibly requires rearranging the way your equipment is set in the board. From this moment on, lava cables start to fail. This cables work greatly throughout the first two years of playing in your basement, but become faulty just by looking at them a few times after a couple of years of NORMAL usage. Lava Cables are pricy and not reliable in the mid term. I “invested” in three of these cable kits because they were the best in the market, so I wouldn’t worry again, but instead, some years later, I am forced to look to other options and replace these unreliable, disappointing cables.

Most of these plugs were excellent and went right on three were quite fussy and one broke the piece off into and I am contacting lava about a replacement. Overall not too much wasted cord as a result but enough. Extremely happy with how quick and. NEat it works when it goes right and the results it has produced and clarity in my 12+ pedal board which is now fully lava cabled. I used this to make more cords from a tightrope board kit pack that came with 10 plugs to start. Would buy again and will go to five stars pending service call

I buy these to use with evidence monorail cable. The combo is affordable and effective. Cabled a few boards with this combo and have not yet had issues once you get the hang of constructing the connections. Not s huge fan of the lava cable itself, but the connectors seem fairly well designed. Can’t say the same for the”screw in” style. Those are annoying and in my experience completely unreliable. These, however, work well. Recommended with the evidence monorail cabling.

So I’ve used several different brands of solderless cables and they all have there ups and downs. From super expensive George L’s to the reasonably priced chandler clear-fuse from mammoth. These are the first I’ve not been able to get to work under any circumstances. There is literally no center pin to connect to the inside wire. How is that possible? The metal feels light and cheap and I feel like I’ve been taken.

Had a hard time putting these together, i did exactly as the manual and video showed, but most times i could not get the able to actually click - and even when it did, it would sometimes fall out. I tested each cable before putting them on my board and going thru the process of fishing it thru where it needed to go, got the board all done, plugged it in - didn't work - I did this about 3 times, The culprit was always a lava cable. it would read fine on the meter, and work when i plugged it in a pedal to check it, but it would of course want to give out once everything was completed and then id have to tear the whole board apart. I wish they just made these cables already made up for you in half foot lengths, it would be perfect and save a ton of hassle.

I had not previously heard of Lava Cable until I watched some Templeboard tutorials online and they gave them a high recommendation for how thin, yet well built the cables and shielding were, and also how intuitive they are to build yourself and design your patch runs just how you need them. My cabling is tight, there's no excess, the signal strength isn't bad - it overall isn't a giant mess on my Templeboard. I'm quite happy with these!
