I needed a roller to make the outside of our daughter's play house look like bricks without spending a bunch of money. There is a bit of a learning curve to using the roller. We used joint compound as the base. About 1/8 inch thick coat. The key to success is to have a bucket of water handy to keep your roller clean. As soon as you start to see the compound sticking to the roller, you need to stop rolling and rinse the roller. It does start sticking very quickly so the project itself took a bit of time to complete.Overall I was pretty happy with the product.

Thankfully, it’s not plasticky, but is a good heavy material

The description indicates that this is a patterned paint roller. However, the material of the roller does not hold paint, so you roll it a few inches and then there's no more paint. If you put more paint on the roller, then you have to try and match up the pattern, which is difficult at times. Thankfully this was just for painting faux brick walls for a VBS, so it didn't have to be perfect and we ended up freehand painting the 'brick' lines to fill in what the roller missed. The roller is embossed and meant for rolling in some medium that would accept the embossed pattern. Definitely not for use to apply something.
