While the fan is ok, the laptop still gets hot. Likely a lack of airflow, draws from the bottom and not sides which is a issue. Most people cant till their lap top high enough to make this practical. Also, pass through voltage is ok for some basic USB items but anything that draws a 2 or 3 amp load will fail. It would seem the voltage is some what unstable as well.

This cooling mat does feature an extra USB port, but it uses a odd system to connect to a PC. It uses a two ended USB-A cable, on the upside this could mean that it would work as perfectly as a USB-extension cable. On the downside, the second USB port on the mat I received did not work as a power extension; I tried a mouse and a wireless keyboard receiver, but the port did not work.I have a laptop that does seem to have some heat-related issues -- it doesn't overheat on its own while web browsing or routine use. However, with heavy use, it does get very hot and tends to thermal throttle (slow down to avoid crashing).Like most, I already have a program to monitor the temperature of my CPU, so being able to do a test for a product like this sounded interesting. First, I used the GTA V benchmark tool included with the game, I did one test without this mat, and one with it on the fastest speed it has. Most of the statistics from the benchmark were the same, average FPS and response was the same across both tests, but the max FPS with the mat was higher by 10fps.For the temperatures, without the cooling mat I had a temperature of 99*C max, with it hovering around the 85~'s most of the time. With the cooling mat, I had a temperature of 86*C max, with it hovering around 5*C colder at 80*C most of the time. Overall, it does cool down my PC a decent amount to let it work faster. But there are just so many little irritating issues. The design of the props to hold my laptop are not ergonomic and my wrists rest on the prongs which could be painful over time. It could be the same effective mat with 3 great fans instead of 10 mediocre fans. And I feel the price is a little high for this quality of a mat.I gave it only three stars because of all these little things that were negative: no instructions, second USB didn't work, the design regarding wrist support, etc.

This is one of the better "under the laptop" coolers I have tried, evidenced by the metal grille on the top, rubber slide stoppers for your laptop to sit on, the inclusion of the status display, and the cooling:noise ratio. The arrangement is 2 larger fans in the center with 4x smaller fans on either side. The fans all light up with whatever scheme you select, but its a sort of a light pipe type deal, where one or two LEDs are "routed" through transparent conduits to the sides of the fans. This results in a more diffuse lighting effect, which I actually prefer. The USB cable is a pass-thru type, so it can take the 5v it needs to run the fans but still let something connect to the USB port.In terms of cooling, this one does a very good job of keeping the air between it and the bottom of the laptop cool. Whether or not this translates to a cooler running laptop depends largely on whether the intake vents are also on the bottom. This is usually the case, but not always.Since there is no directed airflow, no acceleration for active cooling, and no way to increase pressure above ambient between the fan and laptop bottom, the range of effect of these devices is limited, and the real metric by which they are evaluated is noise.I am guessing the designers knew this as well, because the 10 fans in this thing spin at a fairly low speed, which still works fine to keep fresh ambient temp air coming in, but also doesnt sound like an invading army of bees with desk fans.

This thing is good - not great, but fine for what I need. I used it consistently for the past couple of months to host my gaming laptop in the living room, and it's still kicking. You'll have to play with the buttons to see what everything does, but they're pretty obvious. Not obvious: long-hold the power button on the right to turn off the fans completely. Fan speeds are controllable but I usually just stick with the same setting. The RGB controls don't offer that much flexibility, but there's a handful of presets. Sadly, though, what you pick is lost next time the device powers on, so it never saves your settings, and the default is the fast-paced rainbow light strobing which is kind of... not super pleasant, but it's also not so harsh so as to be offensive, so it's fine. I do wish there were more options though. Not obvious: long-hold the LED cycle button to turn off the side LEDs completely (fan LEDs are always on if the fans are on).I've been using laptop cooling fan stands that open up from the middle for years, and while I still really like that design for the flexibility (you don't need as much desk space), this is far more stable with the legs on the sides. I'd prefer if the stubs at the front which keep the laptop from falling off when it's at an angle were taller, but my laptop is square enough that it's not an issue - for a rounded or beveled edge device, though, you may risk your device at higher angles. It's nice that the USB cable is removable, but I expect a fan to offer a passthrough port or to act as a hub. This does neither, so you are giving up a port completely for the fan. The other reviews mention the USB port acting as a passthrough, though it's not clear if they tested this to confirm it works, but mine definitely does not. I'm not bothered enough to go through a return to check, but keep it in mind.Overall, I'm keeping it and plan to use it whenever I use this gaming laptop at home. I wish the USB passthrough worked, and I wish the LEDs were more controllable, and I wish it were thinner (for more portability) but it's still a really good value if you know what you need.
