This is a decently priced set of turnbuckles designed for outdoor use. They feel nice to the hand and I do not notice any visible defects in quality. Looking forward to using these in my spring projects.Things to note:- One reviewer mentioned that there is not much range of movement when tensioning. To use a turnbuckle properly, you need to start with the screw ends extended from the "buckle" an appropriate amount for the gap you are trying to close. If you start with the screws all the way in, you're not going to be able to tighten it any further because the screw ends will hit each other. This is not a defect of this product, but the nature of turnbuckles in general. Start with the turnbuckle extended, and then tighten it to put tension in your wire - having a sturdy screw driver on hand will help you tighten the last few turns of the turnbuckle.- Another review mentioned the potential for rust. Stainless steel is rust RESISTANT not rust proof.- Verify your needed configuration prior to ordering. This comes with one eye bolt and one hook. Other turnbuckles offer two hooks or two eyebolts. Figure out what you need and order appropriately.

This is a very good product. The turnbuckle is made of 304 stainless steel. I’ve had it out in the rain and snow for about a week now and there is no sign of rust. All the pieces screw and unscrew very smoothly; it’s easy to adjust the tension by turning the buckle. I have a couple of these cinching down a 1/8 inch thick wire rope on which I’m going to drape some plant frost blankets. I really like that one end is a closed eye but the other end is an open hook. That makes it easy to connect this to the closed eye on the ground anchors I’m using. The range of the turnbuckle length is about 5-3/4 to 8-9/16 inches. The only thing to keep in mind is to ensure you get the right size for your needs. As you can see from the photo, there is quite a difference in length between an M5 and an M6 turnbuckle. What may not be clear from the photo is that the M6 is a heavier gauge steel (M6 = 6mm, M5 = 5mm). The M5 has a working load limit of 88 lbs while the M6 has a maximum load of 250 lbs. The M6 (this product) will have much more strength, but if the M5 meets the strength rating for your application, it has a thinner eye which may be easier to connect to a wire rope. But again, the M6 turnbuckle is going to hold much more weight or tension. This is a well made product that works very smoothly. It’s going to serve my purpose perfectly.

I used these in tandem with a cable clothesline to make a tomato trellis. Small, so hard to get tight, but a screwdriver as a lever works to tighten them up.

In my case, I plan to use these to support chicken wire in our garden enclosure. In my opinion, these should work well, but are not made for heavy duty application. Time will tell.

These are probably okay for shade sails, but would not use them for deck rails or anything involving human safety. The turnbuckle chart in the 5th image is from an Australian company called Anzor (no affiliation with me or Amazon) - it lists an M6 hook/eye turnbuckle made from grade 316 stainless as having a breaking load of 350 kg (771.6 lbs). To get a safe Working Load Limit, you have to decide what your safety factor is. Anzor suggests 25%, but for humans, like keeping them from falling over a deck railing top wire that snaps under their weight when they put all their weight on it, a safety factor of 10% is recommended. This means a WLL of only 77.2 lbs. Inadequate.Incidentally this is also why you see cable railings done with a solid top rail (wood or metal), but I speculate that the percentage of diy deck installs that might skip this component, vs professional (code-compliant) ones is non-zero. Hence my suggestion that these turnbuckles aren't useful for deck railings. I am not a professional, you are responsible for your own education and choices.Factor in that these are made from 304 stainless (dunno how that affects load limit) and several of them are bent / crooked, and have questionable welds (3rd image, see the little hole? Water could linger in there and cause corrosion eventually - stainless steel is stainLESS, not stainFREE) I would not count on these for the safety of my family and guests. Hence my recommendation for things like shade sails only.

Whether it’s cable or rope, turnbuckles are useful in allowing them to be tensioned tight. For these, the welded loop end has a standard (right hand) thread while the hook end is reversed (left hand) thread. For the middle section, it’s 94.5mm in overall length, 17mm wide, and 9mm at its thickest. The rectangular threaded ends are 11mm long. For the hook, its overall length is 73.3mm, 46mm of which is (LH) threaded. The loop end is 74.3mm in length, of which 48mm is threaded.

This kit came with six (6) stainless steel "Turnbuckle Tensioner". They are made from 304 stainless steel and have an "eye" on one side and a hook on the other. You can turn the center to adjust the tension. The hook end has about 1/2 the load ability (250 lbs) of the "eye" end (440 lbs). I need one of these to help a sagging gate by adding diagonal tension to it. It worked perfectly for this application.

I've purchased a lot of this sort of thing over the years to hang sun sails, cafe lights and to support bird houses and feeders. The casting on these is OK and the mechanism is a bit sloppy. But? They will work just fine for most installations. Note. If you are hanging large sun sails, you are going to want something both larger and of higher quality.
