About this item

  • Oil leaks are the most common automobile problems, but they are easy to solve by identifying their cause. One of the culprits is your oil filter housing cap where a gasket is keeping it leak-free and a cap is covering it from the elements. Your oil filter housing cap is supposed to keep your oil from spurting out, but it can crack or wear over time.
  • You would know if this is the problematic part by tracing where the leak is. If indeed you have a broken cap, get a direct-fit replacement before the problem gets worse. Doing so will keep your engine parts lubricated all the time and restore the efficient performance of your oiling system.
  • This Oil Filter Housing Cover Cap Fits for the Following Vehicles: Coupé 640i 640ix 525i 525xi 530i 530xi 528i 528xi 535i 535xi 530xi 535xi X5 3.0si X5 35iX X6 35iX 128i 135i M Coupé X3 3.0i X3 3.0si X1 28i X1 28iX X1 35iX Z4 3.0i Z4 3.0si Z4 3.0si 128i 135i Z4 28i Z4 30i Z4 35i Z4 35is 323i 325i 325xi 328i 328xi 330i 330xi 335i 335xi 320i 320ix & more. See below for the full vehicle list.

  • This BMW part is part and parcel of your oil filter, and will fit easily on it. Its durable plastic housing is impact-resistant and will also keep your oil filter sealed tight. Just screw it on, and you're done. Installation should be a breeze for anyone.

What it is?

Oil filter housing cap is a small cap used to cover the oil filter. Its primary function is to keep the filter secured and to keep the oil inside from leaking.

Your oil filter housing cap is supposed to keep your oil from spurting out, but it can crack or wear over time. When this happens, you can simply remove it and fit a replacement in its place.

That is how easy it can be, so pop your hood, locate your oil filter housing, and replace its cap.

A rugged-looking and high-quality cap to remain functional and appealing for a long time, that's we provide.

How to replace the oil filter housing cap?

Wait for your engine to cool first before you remove your oil filter housing cap.

Disconnect the negative battery cable as safety precaution.

Remove your air cleaner and air meter by taking off the 10mm bolts, clips, band clamps, and screws that secure them in place.

Pry the belt tensioner and idler pulley covers with a small screw driver, and then remove the pulleys with the use of a 5/8 socket and ratchet.

Take the alternator bottom bolt off, unplug the alternator wire, peel the black rubber, and disconnect the battery cable from the alternator. Remove the alternator.

Unbolt the power steering tank and move it out of the way.

Remove two bolts that secure your oil filter housing, the banjo fitting, and the oil pressure sending unit wire.

Tap the oil filter housing out, then remove its cap using the right tool.

I bought a 2013 328i. The filter capsule/cage which was apparently a BMW part, came apart on the first oil change. The little teeth that held it on were very brittle and some were broken off.I realize this is not a factory part, but I think it is well made and fits perfectly. As always, be gentle with these. Oil up both o-rings. Insert the filter into the cap all the way before you screw the cap on. The factory torque spec is practically nothing -- 18 ft/lbs -- but if you tighten it without a torque wrench until it contacts the bowl it isn't going anywhere and you won't overdo it.

The part was exactly what I wanted. It fit the filter and the car perfectly. When I went to tighten the cap my filter wrench no longer fit. It appears the cap is slightly larger than the stock cap.

The o-ring in My 2009 X5’s original oil cap was worn and some oil was seeping out. This cap fit like stock and stopped the oil leak. Even better, the VANOS sensor warnings went away too, so I couldn’t be happier.
