The knob to tightn and hold the compass in place broke off the first day I got it. It was tight so I put oil on the threads and left it.after I waited an hour I held the knob with my fingers and twisted. The threaded knob came off in my hand and the threaded shaft remains in the compass. On the plus side, the compass is stiff to move so it still can function sort of or use more as a means to transfer a measurement.
