I used the older White and Garret detectors before. Very good. Now years later decided to get into it again, and bought this. It is NOT ground balancing as advertised. Every step, every swing this thing is beeping. My old Garret you hit a button on handle when it got like this and it would reinitialize. Apparently the "auto" type is just hype and flat out untruth. Every step it is driving you insane with all the beeping, like once a second. Every step, every swing.The only way to settle it is to turn the sensitivity down to no more than a 3 or 4, and then it won't pick up anything. Planted coins about 1" all corners of garden, on 3 it won't pick them up, go up to the 7 default and it is beeping EVERY swing, EVERY step. This is nothing more than a child's toy to please them with all the racket is making. Every coin I did get all show up as IRON or FOIL with the low beep. EVERYTHING I tested on, pennies, quarters, nickels, dime, nail, all is listed as either iron or foil. It has yet to get anything right. As I said, just a non-balancing noisy toy. I expected better at the $180 tag. Should have bought a better one. Buyer beware!!

Watch your sensitivity settings for the targets your hunting for, the instructions were well implied to the equipment at hand, I would recommend that you get a " Pin Pointer", to go with your unit, I have enjoyed mine on Various field trips. I would give it a very Good rating.

Very happy with this product, the battery life has been good so far with Amazon batteries (bought separately), which was something I was concerned about, didn’t want to buy tons of 9v batteries. The detector won’t tell you exactly what’s down there but it will give you an idea and after a few days you’ll figure it out. You want to keep it level when scanning, false signals pop up once in a while but just double scan. Found some cool things, along with a lot of rubbish but it’s part of the hunt.

Right out of the box it was super easy to get started. Great instructions and easy for any beginner to figure it out. I've only been able to use it a few times but it was really, really easy to get going. I took the nieces and nephew out into the woods and on the beach and they had a blast. So fun for all of us to play with. We didn't get rich yet finding piles of gold, but we found some old cans and a few coins. If you're looking for something fun to do with the kids this summer, this is an excellent idea. I've used it twice so far and it is already worth it.
