These stretcher bars work just like the ones I got with my first needlepoint kit but they are sanded better and are a little deeper. They assemble the same way and feel more sturdy. I like the multiple sizes so I can arrange them however I need for various projects. I do not like the tacks that came with it though- I like that the tops don't wear down like the regular ones but they bend when trying to push them into the wood so they just don't work properly for me.

I love the size versatility of these stretcher bars! I'm using them for working on projects (embroidery, magic diamond, acrylic painting on canvas), not for permanent mounting. The wooden bars are straight and well made, no splinters or other snaggy spots. They fit together with a little effort and can be dismantled with a few taps from a mallet or hammer. The frame stays at right angles, no sagging into trapezoid shapes. The tacks are okay but a little hard for my old hands to use. I'm using push pins instead, just so I can get a grip on them. Both the tacks and push pins go into the wood with a little effort, and come out again when I'm done. They do leave a tiny hole but, so far, no problems with the wooden bars splintering where the tacks were. I'm very careful to insert and remove the pins vertically, so you might have a different experience if you insert the tacks at an angle. The assembled stretcher frame is light weight enough that I don't need a stand for embroidery -- a bit heavier than a wooden hoop, but not much.I'm very happy with these stretcher bars and expect to use and reuse them for many, many projects.

They fit together tightly.. Wood is smooth, haven’t noticed any splinters. Able to push thumbtacks into wood, holding securely. Will see how bars holdup over time. Included thumbtacks more bulletin board and smaller top than the plain metal ones usually used for needlework. Sizes included are what I needed for my project.

These stretchers are fantastic for canvasses. The pieces had a few raw bits which came right with a smoothing cloth. The fit is perfect, but the tacks are useless. We were using the tacks to hold pieces together until we could staple them. but the tacks either bent trying to go in or the top snapped off in use. That's why I took off one star. They come well packaged and quickly. The price beats the heck out of the mortar stores.

The concept behind the embroidery stretcher bars intrigued me since I've never seen this kind of kit before. The kit includes 3 sets of different size bars with each set containing 4 bars. The ends of the bars are carved so they fit together without the need for hardware, though I had to use a mallet to join them 9and they went together easily then). The wood of the bars is soft enough that the included thumb tacks can be pushed into them to anchor the fabric. With the way these bars fit together, there are six possible configurations of hoops that can be constructed - which makes this kit versatile and very useful! My one concern is that the tacks will cause holes in more delicate fabric, so I'll test that out first. This kit is well made, and the wood is smooth and high quality. I believe the price is quite reasonable, and I'm looking forward to completing some of my unusually shaped hand embroidery projects on this set.

PROS: Easy to assemble, pieces fit securely together without nails; multiple lengths provided to create different dimension frames; lots of mounting tacks included; frame pieces are reusable; I can finally work on a 15.75" square counted cross stitch piece that I didn't want to stretch in a hoop multiple times; good valueCONS: none

I didn't receive the tacks that were supposed to be included, but found the frames to be of good quality. The wood is perfectly straight and the corners fit tightly together. I also appreciate the three different sizes and that the pieces can be mixed and matched to make just the size I need. I'm using these for painted canvases, not embroidery, but as a stretch frame for canvas, I think these work well.

The stretcher bars would be 5 stars: they fit together easily, and because they come in sets of four per length, they can be used for square or rectangular projects. I only gave three stars because of the tacks that come with them. The tacks are flimsy, and many of them bend before going all the way into the wood, so have to be discarded. Also the container they come in is soft, flimsy plastic and doesn't stay closed. I've had an accident where all the tacks spilled everywhere because the closure on the box came open on its own after I had closed it. Will need to go to a hardware store and get some tacks that aren't junk.
